edit
  • ... that Cadwallon ap Gruffydd was such a ferocious military leader that he murdered his mother's brothers in a power struggle, but was later himself killed by one of her other brothers in a power struggle?
  • ALT1:... that Cadwallon ap Gruffydd was such an underhanded military leader that he was willing to murder three of his mother's brothers to gain power, but was himself later killed by another brother of hers?
  • ALT2:... that Cadwallon ap Gruffydd was such an underhanded military leader that he was willing to murder three of his mother's brothers to gain power, but was himself later killed by another brother to avenge their deaths?

Hook is expressly and directly supported by three on line sources, namely:
  • Llwyd, Humphrey; Williams, Ieuan M. (2002). Cronica Walliae. Cardiff: University of Wales Press. ISBN 978-0-7083-1638-2. {{cite book}}: Cite has empty unknown parameter: |1= (help)
  • Lloyd, John Edward (2004). A History of Wales: From the Norman Invasion to the Edwardian Conquest (Print). New York: Banes & Noble. ISBN 978-0-7607-5241-8. {{cite book}}: Cite has empty unknown parameter: |1= (help) and
  • Williams, Rob (1852). A biographical dictionary of eminent Welshmen., from the earliest times to the present. Llandovery, London: William Rees/Longman, and Co. {{cite book}}: Cite has empty unknown parameter: |1= (help).
I don't have a preference as between the alternate hooks. The subject's actions are right out of MacBeth—getting rid of three uncles is more than Kim Jong Un has accomplished so far.
  • New article. New enough, long enough, well cited article; hook is directly cited to several sources. As to off line sources, I WP:AGF, as I don't have the book. I note that this editor is a prolific DYK contributor, and may be implicitly relied upon. DYK QPQ is confirmed. No close paraphrasing or copyright issues. IMHO the quality of the hook is very high: interesting, hooky and capturing the essence of the article.7&6=thirteen () 21:48, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
