Death of Liam Payne
- ... that Wikipedia was criticised following the death of Liam Payne? Source: https://parade.com/news/one-direction-fans-slam-wikipedia-liam-payne-death-insensitive

- Comment: Disgusted by the lack of an ITN blurb for this, so I've spun it off from the mother article and added a lead and background section. The Official Charts Company recently cut me a cheque for a hook about his song Teardrops entering the UK chart for the first time after his death, I'll find out if it cashes on Friday.

- I'm not entirely sure his death even warrants a separate article, but either way the proposed hook isn't particularly interesting when far from the only thing Wikipedia has gotten complaints over and certainly not the most egregious. You'd be better off focusing on something that led to Liam dying or maybe a chart/sales boost in memory of him (assuming that does happen). At least a QPQ has thankfully been provided and the article was expanded from a redirect earlier today. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 14:35, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- If I may put my tuppeny's worth on this one, this looks like navel gazing - choosing the attribute of the article that relates to Wikipedia itself. I'm sure there's something more interesting? WP:10YT comes to mind. People will remember Payne in 10 years time, certainly. But will they remember people being upset about an edit to Wikipedia? Are collations of anonymous tweets notable in any case? There's no way to placate everyone who reads Wikipedia. Some people will complain on Twitter that "died" is too harsh a word to say, some will say that graphic descriptions of deaths have a copycat effect. If they're upset that Payne was listed as a past member of One Direction, well that's par for the course I'm afraid, Chester Bennington is listed as a past member of Linkin Park when his contribution is obviously far more than Emily Armstrong - it's about now, not then. The cited article ends """He will always be a member of 1d," one grieving fan added" which is an understandable statement of grief, but not an argument of inaccuracy. - My thoughts exactly. We can do much better than fans getting upset over a listing. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 21:26, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- (As it happens, I did consider driveby nominating Armstrong's article. Can't remember why I didn't.) I disagree that navel-gazing is a bad thing. People who read the front page are inherently going to be interested in the site. There hasn't been a below-median Wikipedia hook since May 2020. There are hooks in the article about "Liam's Law" and Impact X Nightline but I'll wait until the charts come out and propose several at once. Also, I suspect that hooks "on something that led to Liam dying" could be a WP:BDP minefield, so I won't propose anything along those lines.--Launchballer 08:40, 24 October 2024 (UTC)

- AFD nomination is looking like a snow merge so putting the nomination out of its misery as it seems extremely unlikely to survive its AFD. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 14:30, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
