- Imho, the most obvious DYK topic about this composition would be that it is the composer's Op. 1. The ALT0 version is too bland and non-informative for a DYK, imho. ALT1 would be the better choice imho, but might refer to Goethe as the poet of the lyrics. --Francis Schonken (talk) 07:26, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hello Francis, thank you for your comments. Some more suggestions:
- ALT2:
... that Franz Schubert's "Erlkönig", written at the age of 18 as his Op. 1, was an immediate success and solidified his reputation as a composer? - ALT3:
... that in Franz Schubert's "Erlkönig", a single singer portrays four characters, each differing in vocal register and having their own rhythmic and harmonic nuances?

- Substantial article, good expansion on fine sources, offline sources accepted AGF, no copyvio obvious. The image is licensed and a good illustration, - perhaps a crop would be even better. - Let's polish the hook. We need the quotation marks for the piece, and we need to say somehow what kind of work it is. Don't be too sure that all our readers will know that a certain Schubert was a composer. I'd pipe the link to him to the last name, and mention him after the piece. I like both the Op. 1 (but published, not written)) and the four characters. Please try. - Just for curiosity: where would the Reger arrangement sit in Reger works? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:11, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks, Gerda, I've given it another try. Regarding Reger, it seems that the list is missing the arrangements of works by other composers. The Reger-Werkausgabe will devote 11 volumes to them, and the Institute lists Erlkönig as part of Ausgewählte Lieder Schubert-B3). intforce (talk) 12:59, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

- Thank you, and let's just think yout that one, how is this?

... that a singer of "Erlkönig", published as Schubert's Op. 1, Op. 1, portrays four characters, each differing in vocal register, and rhythmic and harmonic nuances? - --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:14, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- "Differing in rhythmic and harmonic nuances" sounds a bit weird, how about...
- ALT4b: ... that a singer of "Erlkönig", published as Schubert's Op. 1, portrays four characters that differ in vocal register, rhythm, and harmony? intforce (talk) 17:04, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

- "ALT4b" OK as far as I'm concerned – Schubert didn't compose it "as" his Op. 1 – there were several years between the date of composition and the publication as Op. 1: there is no indication that at the time of composition Schubert thought of it as his Op. 1. --Francis Schonken (talk) 17:44, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
