Fish for finance
- ... that the fish for finance tradeoff in EU–UK trade negotiations pits an industry that accounts for nearly 7 per cent of the UK's GDP against one with less revenues than Harrods? Source: "'So, you know, you may have to make concessions in areas like fishing in order to get concessions from us in areas like financial services.'" Leo Varadkar warns Britain may have to accept 'fish for finance' compromise in EU trade talks, Evening Standard, 27 January 2020; In 2018, the financial services sector contributed £132 billion to the UK economy, 6.9% of total economic output.", Financial services: contribution to the UK economy, UK House of Commons; "May's Brexit dividend and other myths worth exploring" Financial Times; cited at "There are just 12,000 British fishermen operating 6,000 vessels and contributing less than one half of one percent of gross domestic product — less, according to one analysis, than Harrods, the upscale London department store.", The New York Times; March 17, 2020
- ALT1:... that the consequences of failing to resolve the fish for finance tradeoff in EU–UK trade negotiations may include violence on the high seas and blockades of European ports?Source: "Britain's leading expert on international fisheries law believes that, following a no-deal Brexit, there would be 'a real risk' of serious violence breaking out between British and EU fishermen, many of whom depend on access to UK fishing grounds for their economic survival ... As soon as the UK government tries to prevent continental European fishermen from continuing to fish in UK waters, French (and potentially other continental European fishermen) are likely to blockade UK fish (and possibly other) exports to continental Europe by physically stopping UK refrigerated trucks as they attempt to drive inland from continental Channel ports. Indeed, the director of one major French fishing fleet has stated publicly that, if his boats are stopped from fishing in British waters, his men will physically stop UK fish from entering France. - Comment: The article I've spent most of the pandemic working on in draftspace. Ideal date to run it would be October 15, sort of the informal deadline for reaching the basics of an agreement, after which everyone starts preparing for no deal.

- This is a very impressive article on an important subject and is new enough and long enough. The hook facts are cited inline and either hook could be used, the article is neutral and I detected no copyright issues. A QPQ has been done. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:51, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, I came by to promote ALT0 but the article has a dispute tag for factual accuracy. Yoninah (talk) 13:12, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
