Frej Ossiannilsson
edit... that the Swedish entomologist Frej Ossiannilsson discovered vibrational communication of leafhoppers and is thus considered a pioneer of biotremology?Source: "By pressing the opening of a tube containing a leafhopper to his ear, he discovered their sound production" (Sundblad & Petterson 2003) -- note that the source mentions sound, not vibration, but this distinction is more accurately presented by other cited sources. Also, "... 9 years after the groundbreaking study by Frej Ossiannilsson ..." (Wessel 2014).

- Article has been created on the indicated day, is long enough, neutral, and properly referenced. The main source is not available online but I did check that it is not a translation from the existing Swedish nor German Wikipedia entries. The one source that is fully available has not been plagiarised. The hook is interesting and referenced to a reliable source (the one that is online). Due to its careful wording (a pioneer, as opposed to the pioneer) the hook correctly paraphrases the article that it references. I found only one DYK credit on Yerpo's talkpage; he is thus not required to review another submission. This submission is good to go. --Pgallert (talk) 09:44, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you, Pgallert. To be completely open, I have had 8-9 DYK nominations approved over the years (you probably overlooked my talk page archive), but I didn't have time to review another submission yet and I, frankly, forgot about it. If it's an absolute requirement, I can try to do something. — Yerpo Eh? 10:36, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Yerpo: Oops, indeed. Thanks for mentioning it. I saw the sequence "AfC declined - Invitation to teahouse - DYK credits" and didn't think you could have had DYKs before that... --Pgallert (talk) 07:27, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
- Awaiting DYK QPQ review. The reviewing has changed quite a bit in recent years, if you need help don't hesitate to ask me. --Pgallert (talk) 07:27, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
- Heads up @Yerpo: Just to make sure this is moving somewhere... --Pgallert (talk) 18:16, 14 October 2018 (UTC)

- @Yoninah: hmmm, you're may be right, how about
- ALT1 "... that by pushing a glass tube in his ear, Frej Ossiannilsson discovered the leafhopper inside produced faint vibrations and became a pioneer of biotremology"?
- ALT2
"... that the field of biotremology advanced quite a bit since Frej Ossiannilsson pushed a glass tube with a leafhopper in his ear, to discover it produced faint vibrations?(shifts focus to biotremology and is not directly supported by the article, but is supported by the reference Hill & Wessel 2016) - If this is still too complicated, I'll try to come up with a couple more hooks later. — Yerpo Eh? 05:25, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Yerpo: ALT1 looks like a good hook, if you end it at "vibrations". You don't have to sell me on his fame; you just have to hook me into reading the article. Yoninah (talk) 17:19, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: I did wish to mention biotremology explicitly, but if it comes across as too verbose, I'd be satisfied with your version as well. Feel free to promote it that way. Thanks, — Yerpo Eh? 07:06, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Yerpo: one more idea:
- ALT3:
... that Frej Ossiannilsson discovered a new form of insect communication when he pushed a glass tube containing a leafhopper into his ear and heard its faint vibrations?Yoninah (talk) 14:58, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
