Granny (orca)

edit

The unique dorsal fin of J2 Granny, showing her half-moon notch, taken as she swam through Haro Strait in Washington State in 2007

  • ... that Granny (identifying dorsal fin pictured), also known as J2, is the oldest known orca at an estimated 103 years old?
  • ALT1:... that Granny (identifying dorsal fin pictured), the oldest known orca, is estimated to have been born the year before the Titanic launched?

  • Nice article, well-written, well-referenced, and interesting to read. There is a bit of close paraphrasing, but this is in reporting facts about the orca and her group, so I don't see how this can be avoided. The only issue I have is that it is not certain that she is 103 years old, it is assumed to be so due to orca birthing habits. I think this should be added in the article (the Daily Mail article explains it rather well) and "estimated" put before 103 years old or the Titanic date. Other than that, QPQ is not needed and it is good to go. Constantine 08:44, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
the detail is already in the article I believe, in the second paragraph of the description section. I have clarified the hook. Let me know if you think more changes are required. Gaijin42 (talk) 13:23, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
I've gone ahead and added the exact way her age was estimated myself. I felt it important to explain this, because both the article and the hooks hinge on the age issue. The article is good to go now. Constantine 13:35, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
One minor issue: the word "orca" is a common noun and should not be capitalized. Surtsicna (talk) 13:27, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
fixed. Gaijin42 (talk) 17:21, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
Now that a picture was added, I also added the "(pictured)" piece in the hooks. The main issue however is the license of the image. What is apparently a transcript of an email communication is appended to the image, but, AGF aside, I am not sure that this qualifies. It should preferably be forwarded to the OTRS system. Per [1] the email should be sufficient, however, I do need to forward to OTRS. I will do so and add the ticket info when available. Gaijin42 (talk) 20:55, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
I have sent the full email chain to OTRS Gaijin42 (talk) 21:05, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
Great, now it is good to go. Constantine 10:44, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
