Hesham Ashmawy
edit- ... that Hesham Ashmawy was one of Egypt's most wanted militants prior to his October 2018 arrest in Derna, Libya? Source: BBC
- ALT1:... that Hesham Ashmawy, one of Egypt's most wanted militants, was sentenced to death in absentia by an Egyptian military court in December 2017? Source: Al-Ahram
- Comment: Some reliable sources, like The Wall Street Journal, call him a "terrorist", while the BBC article linked above refers to him as a "jihadist". I chose "militant" as a more neutral term both in the article and for the hook, but I'm willing to reconsider that term if some find it euphemistic. This was nominated for ITN back when it was in the news, but I withdrew eventually in favor of DYK. The article was created on October 9 and has been significantly expanded since then. Created by Fitzcarmalan (talk). Self-nominated at 12:01, 15 October 2018 (UTC).
- Article is new enough (created six days before nomination), large enough (10,176 bytes readable prose), and Copyright vio detector finds no issues: the only match of any size was a quotation. Both hooks are acceptable length and format, but I do have a concern that both of them refer to him being "most wanted", which I cannot see mentioned in the article. It is in several sources so I don't doubt its accuracy, but normally the DYK is based on what is in the article, not the sources. Gronk Oz (talk) 12:41, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- You're right. Now mentioned both in the lead and body. Fitzcarmalan (talk) 13:29, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- Both hooks look good now. I notice there are several red links in the article, but that is not a DYK show-stopper: I will leave it to the author to determine whether those articles are expected to be created soon (in which case the links should remain) or not. An interesting article - well done. --Gronk Oz (talk) 22:11, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks. I do have plans to create some of the missing articles as soon as I'm done with my current projects. I also removed a couple of those links, since I don't expect to work on them any time soon. They're probably not notable enough for standalone articles anyway, as they seem better suited as redirects. Fitzcarmalan (talk) 10:25, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
