Inter-caste marriage in Nepal
- ...
that the inter-caste marriage (wedding pictured) often leads to violence, untouchability, sexual exploitation, human trafficking, and witch-hunts against the woman of Nepal?

Hook eligibility:
- Cited: - Two citations have been used to back the fact of hook. Can the nominator also mention the page number of the source from Refworld? Also, this citation needs to include attribution as there is no mentioning of the Refugee Documentation Centre of Ireland which actually conducted this research.
- Interesting:
- Other problems: - I don't think there is any need to wikilink "violence" and "sexual exploitation" as these are pretty commonly understandable terms in English language. "Against the woman of Nepal", shouldn't it be "women of Nepal"? Article is totally silent on who commits such atrocities against the women after they get married out of their castes. It does mention two "notable incidents" but both the incidents do not corroborate with the fact mentioned in the hook.

Overall: I don't see any relevance of this image in the hook. It is a "typical" Hindu wedding. Deepak G Goswami (talk) 15:18, 26 June 2020 (UTC)
- ALT1: ... that the inter-caste marriage (wedding pictured) often leads to harassment, forced separation, displacement, and institutional discrimination?
- ALT2: ... that the bride of inter-caste marriage (wedding pictured) were found to be at-risk of "depression and psychosocial problems"?
- Hey Deepak G Goswami, After further analysing the source, I think that is not what they meant. Here are few alternative hooks. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 11:45, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
- Both the hooks are still flawed as they don't mention that it is a matter related to Nepal. Moreover, making such a generalised statement would require backing from either a research/survey carried out by a highly credible institution (which, IMHO, "Jagaran Media Center" isn't) or multiple news sources supporting the argument that inter-caste marriages indeed cause such atrocities in Nepal. I am pressing more on the credibility and need for abundance of the sources because this hook put a negative image of the Nepalese society. Also, the image is not relevant, as I pointed out earlier, because it only displays a Hindu wedding ritual and unless the article confirms that this inter-caste issue is only related to the Hindus of Nepal and this particular image somehow displays something unique of inter-caste marriages I don't see why this image should be used.--Deepak G Goswami (talk) 16:21, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
- ALT3: ... that the Government of Nepal gives रू100,000 (about US$1,350) to Nepali people who have an inter-caste marriage?
- Deepak G Goswami, Maybe this? ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 13:15, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- By saying "give you"(sic), you are implying that if anyone from any country goes to Nepal and undergoes an inter-caste marriage, he or she would be eligible for the said sum of money. Are you sure that is what the official policy of the Government of Nepal?--Deepak G Goswami (talk) 16:18, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- Deepak G Goswami, I thought It was hooky. It is only for Nepali citizens. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 16:54, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- "Hooky" appearance made it misleading. Anyway, I'd suggest to use "to each couple who has an" instead of "to Nepali people who have an" as currently it's ambiguous. You are using a source from 2009 and it's been over a decade now! How can we be sure that this policy is still in practice in the absence of some latest source? Because different political parties have different ideologies and when they come into power they assert their ideologies through policies; there can be a possibility that many Nepalese political parties may not be favourable to the concept of inter-caste marriages. Even if we assume it's still in practice we don't know what's the current incentive. Usually the amount is raised with time and 11 years is quite a long time. In short, so much changes in a span of 11 years like the Nepalese rupees to USD conversion you are using ("US$1,350") is incorrect as according to latest conversion rate 100,000 Nepalese rupees equal to $824.63. I may seem like overscrupulous and I am sorry for that CAPTAIN MEDUSA but I cannot pass something which I find contentious. You may propose either the same hook with any (comparatively) latest source or a new hook altogether.--Deepak G Goswami (talk) 14:52, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
- ALT4: ... that Nepali families disapprove of inter-caste marriage as they fear of social outcasts?
- Deepak G Goswami, OK, This one maybe... That 2009 thing is still active according to Republica, as they reported in 2018. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 11:01, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- You have a tendency to generalise things. Try to avoid that. Use "most Nepali families" (as the source states) instead of "Nepali families" as in the current format it seems like a statement of truth for all the families in Nepal.--Deepak G Goswami (talk) 15:14, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
- ALT4a: ... that most Nepali families disapprove of inter-caste marriage as they fear becoming social outcasts?
- Deepak G Goswami, Done. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 15:20, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
- Passing the ALT4a hook: Article is new, long enough and sufficiently sourced with inline citations. It only moderately deals with the subject like I am still not sure whether this inter-caste marriage phenomenon is related to all the religions in Nepal or just Hindus but, I believe, issues like this do not impede the article and the hook in particular to get promoted in the DYK. Hook is not too catchy but interesting enough and cited with an inline citation in the article. Image is irrelevant to the hook.--Deepak G Goswami (talk) 15:46, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
- It didn't really make sense grammatically. I changed "they fear of social outcasts" to "they fear becoming social outcasts". MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 18:49, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
