Overall: Checked core criteria as noted above. Earwig's copyvio score is explained by the properly attributed quotations used in the article. While skimming the sources, I noted a physical description of Parker; too bad that was not included. Then again, the references sources seem to contain a lot of information that could be added to the article. However, it is a perfectly sound Start article, even if it is not designated as such yet. Photo is acceptable for article; however, if there is a same day nom running with a graphic with better resolution, I would recommend its usage. Clear up the article's assessment status, and it should be GTG. I unreservedly plump for running this during Black History Month, as Parker showed himself a patriot even if American society was unfair to him.Georgejdorner (talk) 18:23, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
- ADDENDUM: I forgot to mention that though hook seems over-length at 229 characters, the quotation causing that length cannot be trimmed without compromising its meaning. Given that extenuating circumstance, I passed it as GTG.Georgejdorner (talk) 18:38, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
- Georgejdorner, I deleted Czolgoz's name which I think brings it into length compliance. I wasn't sure if that handled the assessment status clarification you asked for or not? LavaBaron (talk) 20:51, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
- Good show, that; I had not thought of that excision. I originally tried to alter the Talk page templates to credit this as a Start class article, but did not succeed. A tetchy little technicality, but if you can get that done, you will be GTG.Georgejdorner (talk) 02:25, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
- Georgejdorner, I might be mistaken but, as the article's author, I don't think I'm permitted to assess it as Start class or otherwise (though, you're right, it is definitely not much more than Start class, if that). LavaBaron (talk) 04:08, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
- Found a slightly different template and swapped it in so I could rate the article Start class. You are now GTG.Georgejdorner (talk) 15:13, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Georgejdorner: the character count is at 240, which is too long for a single-article hook. Placing it in the prep set as is will necessitate dropping another hook, which is not ideal. Perhaps you could end the quote after "death"? If not, another hook should be suggested. Yoninah (talk) 00:40, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: I am a reviewer, not a nominator. The hook has already been shortened once by the author at my request. I would recommend that the author be allowed to trim their own hook.Georgejdorner (talk) 18:32, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
- I agree; sorry that wasn't clear. Pinging the page creator. Yoninah (talk) 19:23, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
- I've provided an alternate hook that is 200 characters in length. Simply ending the quote after "death" isn't a good solution since McKinley did, in fact, die and the unqualified quote would make Parker look like some kind-of grandstanding and clueless rube. LavaBaron (talk) 07:18, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
- That works! Thanks. Restoring tick per Georgejdorner's review. Yoninah (talk) 16:18, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
