Kamal Jit Singh
edit... that Lieutenant General Kamal Jit Singh is the present GOC-in-C of the Indian Army's Western Command?
- ALT1:
... that Lieutenant General Kamal Jit Singh is the present General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army's Western Command? - ALT2:
... that career military leader Lieutenant General Kamal Jit Singh (pictured) has commanded his own regiment i.e 63 Cavalry, an armoured regiment in Northeast India and a United Nations peacekeeping team in Angola?
- ALT1:
Created/expanded by Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk). Self-nominated at 14:34, 21 July 2016 (UTC).
- Long enough. New enough. I added source to hook sentence. No paraphrasing. I think the initial hook is better and more catchy. Good to go! Étienne Dolet (talk) 06:01, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
- "Did you know that X is Y" is not the most interesting hook. May I suggest:
- ALT3:
... that career military leader Kamal Jit Singh (pictured) has commanded an armoured regiment in Northeast India and a United Nations peacekeeping team in Angola? - The article also needs some polishing for English grammar. Is his wife really called "Mrs. Anita"? Yoninah (talk) 20:50, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: Please review the new hook I have added and corrected the his wife's name, it is actually Anita Singh. Thank you. Regards, KCVelaga ☚╣✉╠☛ 23:29, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Krishna Chaitanya Velaga: I did a little more copyediting to polish the English grammar. I'm not sure why you moved up my hook to the top of this thread, making it look like one of your own. Posts should be made in chronological order so it's clear who's suggesting what. Since your ALT2 is based on my ALT3, it should have been placed at the bottom of the page and then everyone can see that you were fine-tuning my hook – in this case, I will not be able to give the final approval because I wrote the hook in the first place.
- Your ALT2 suggestion seems pretty long, and using "i.e." in a hook is not standard practice. Also, the source is more specific, saying he commanded an armoured brigade of T-90s. I suggest shortening and revising ALTs 2 & 3 as follows:
- ALT4: ... that career military leader Kamal Jit Singh (pictured) has commanded both an armoured brigade of T-90s in India and a United Nations peacekeeping team in Angola? Yoninah (talk) 15:35, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
- ALT4a: ... that career military leader Kamal Jit Singh (pictured) has commanded both an armoured brigade of T-90s in India and a United Nations peacekeeping team in Angola?
- I have tweaked ALT4 for less WP:SURPRISE, I hope you do not mind. MPS1992 (talk) 18:56, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you, @MPS1992:, but as I explained above, new hooks should appear in chronological order. I have renamed your correction ALT4a. Yoninah (talk) 20:43, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
@Yoninah: Firstly I apologize for placing the hook above, I was just some confusion and misunderstanding. Please move it to where it fits right. I am OK with both the hooks ALT4, and ALT4a you've proposed. Regards, KCVelaga ☚╣✉╠☛ 00:36, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
