Maud E. Craig Sampson Williams

  • ... that African American suffragist Maud E. Craig Sampson Williams was denied membership in the National American Woman Suffrage Association? Source: "On August 31, 1918, Minnie Fisher Cunningham, the president of TESA, wrote the official response to Williams’ request for membership" ([McCallum (Jane Y.) Papers. AR.E.004. 889-1957. Austin History Center, Austin Public Library, Austin Texas. Box 5, Folder 10])
    • ALT1:... that African American suffragist Maud E. Craig Sampson Williams played a key role in desegregating Texas Western College in 1954, the first Texas undergraduate college to desegregate? Source: "In September 1954, only months after Brown vs. Board of Education, Williams’ committee attempted to desegregate Texas Western College. Williams accompanied Thelma Joyce White, the valedictorian of Douglass School in 1954, to Texas Western to register her for classes" ([WILLIAMS, MAUDE EVANGELINE CRAIG SAMPSON

General: Article is new enough and long enough

Policy compliance:

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: Yes
  • Other problems: No - ALT0 is good to go, but I think ALT1 could benefit from revision. The phrase "went on to" only makes sense in the context of ALT0; if ALT1 was on the main page, it would be by itself, and "went on to" wouldn't have the necessary context. Also, I think the hook would benefit from being more specific than "helped desegregate universities in Texas" (Helped how, exactly? Which universities?). The idea for the hook is solid, I just think it needs some re-wording.
QPQ: None required.

Overall: This is a great article subject, and a very good article creation. There are a couple of items that need to be addressed, see above, before the nomination can be approved. Please ping me or leave a message on my talk page with any questions, and if you'd like me to take a look again once the above items have been addressed. Good work! • @ZoyaBoris: Thanks for taking another run through this; I reviewed your changes to the article and the hook and they're both much better. Your changes to ALT1 are great, and you've also taken care of the El Paso Times copyvio issue–great job, both of those issues are all set. It's still unfortunately too high for the TSHAonline.org source (see this comparison showing 50%). Can you do another round of revisions to get that one down like you did for the El Paso source? Thanks! Levivich 21:43, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
    • @Levivich: Okay, let's try this again. I made additional revisions. Please let me know if further revisions are needed. ZoyaBoris (talk) 23:42, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
      • Thanks for the ping, ZoyaBoris! It got better, Earwig score is now at 47.9%, but sorry, that's still too high, "in the yellow". I think the two problem areas are "precinct campaign organizer for the prohibition candidate in the Democratic primary, Robert E. Thomason" and "In 1968, the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance in El Paso created a Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of Lawrence A. Nixon, Maude Williams, Leroy W. Washington and other civil rights leaders for a student attending the University of Texas at El Paso.". Both passages appear word-for-word in the TSHA source. I think if you can rewrite those two passages, it should significantly drop the Earwig score and we'll be good to go. Thanks for sticking with this! Levivich 23:57, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
        • @Levivich: I revised those two passages. Thanks! ZoyaBoris (talk) 00:27, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
          • ALT0 and ALT1 are good to go. Copyvio issues seem to be sorted now (Earwig green, showing just proper nouns and common phrases). Good going, ZoyaBoris, thanks for all the work you put into the article and nomination! Levivich 01:05, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

@Levivich: Thanks for all your help. And I learned to ping! ZoyaBoris (talk) 20:51, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

Just repeating Levivich's tick, as something is blocking this from moving to the Approved list. RebeccaGreen (talk) 13:20, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this, but one paragraph lacks a citation per Rule D2. Yoninah (talk) 19:04, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
  • Cites added. Restoring tick (offline sources) per Levivich's review. Yoninah (talk) 19:22, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
