Mere Mete Whaanga
edit- ... that Mere Mete Whaanga was one of the first Maori converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints?
- ALT1:... that Mere Mete Whaanga was nearly 60 when she served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints?
- Reviewed: This is my first DYK nomination, QPQ is not required
- Comment: Article created in my userspace on October 14, moved to mainspace on October 17

- : Sufficient length, well-sourced (AGF due to the prominent use of a literary source), no major DYK-breaking issues. I did make a slight copyedit to remove the flowery language in the paragraph about her death, as we typically use straightforward language ("died") rather than sentimental lowery language such as "passed away"). - @JAGrace (BYU): and @Rachel Helps (BYU): We are encouraging editors to move away from the "first" angle when writing hooks. This has been discussed at WT:DYK several times. Being "first" might insure their notability on Wikipedia, but these people live whole lives after doing something the "first" time, and it gets tedious promoting these "first" hooks over and over again. You have good information in this article to make a more colorful hook that will generate many more clicks. What do you think about:
- ALT2: ... that Māori tribal leader and baptized Mormon Mere Mete Whaanga and her sister-in-law made quite a spectacle on the streets of Salt Lake City sporting traditional facial tattoos? Yoninah (talk) 23:35, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
- I agree with the consensus to move away from "firsts". Could I add that information and other guidelines for hooks to the supplementary guidelines?
- ALT2 is supported by in-line citations. Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 15:47, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
