Odeon Theatre, Christchurch

edit

The Odeon Theatre (formerly Tuam Street Hall) still in good shape after the 2010 Canterbury earthquake

  • ... that after New Zealand became the first country in the world to grant women the right to vote in parliamentary elections, suffragist Kate Sheppard enrolled women at Tuam Street Hall (pictured)?

  • Comment: I've written this article because I saw the theatre being demolished, but didn't realise until preparing this DYK nomination template that tomorrow is in fact suffrage day in New Zealand. Probably too ambitious a time frame to expect it to go live on suffrage day.
