Only God Was Above Us
- ... that Vampire Weekend derived the title of their upcoming fifth studio album, Only God Was Above Us, from a 1988 New York Daily News article about a flight's roof being torn off mid-flight? Source: Rolling Stone
Created by Pelekalikimaka (talk). Nominated by MaranoFan (talk) at 16:09, 9 February 2024 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/Only God Was Above Us; consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.
- New article of more than 1500 characters. The Reddit source needs to be replaced or the info removed. Stereogum looks like a borderline case; it would be preferable to replace it with something stronger, but it's not something I'll reject the nomination over. Other sources look good, including the hook citations, and I don't see any copyright issues. The hook is interesting and below 200 words. The album cover has a fair-use rationale. QPQ is done. Fix the Reddit issue and I'll approve. Ffranc (talk) 14:05, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, removed. Stereogum is fine.--NØ 14:13, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
- Nice. At another glance, the info about single releases and about Rechtshaid being a returning longtime collaborator also need sources. Ffranc (talk) 14:19, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks again.--NØ 14:30, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
- The source about Rechtshaid is about a previous album. Looking at it now, it seems like Rechtshaid produced VW's latest three albums, so it's a bit misleading to call it a return, which indicates they had stopped collaborating. It's probably best to remove that wording and just say he produced the album, like it says in the article body. The Rolling Stone article mentions the singles but was published before they were released. It would be best to replace it with a source published after they actually came out. A quick search gives several good sources that can be used, for example NME. Ffranc (talk) 14:42, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
- The source about Rechtshaid is about their 2013 album and verifies that he and the band have been longtime collaborators (10+ years now). I've now scrapped the "return" wording. I think the Rolling Stone source verifies the bit about the singles, but by all means feel free to replace it with something you would like better.--NØ 15:01, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
