Padule di Fucecchio massacre

edit

Created by Turismond (talk). Nominated by Catrìona (talk) at 03:11, 12 August 2018 (UTC).

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: ALT 1 seems more concise and interesting. In good shape. Only recommendation would be to wikilink "Nazi" to either Nazi Germany or Nazi Party. After that, it should be ready to go. Ergo Sum 21:58, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

@Turismond, Catrìona, and Ergo Sum: I felt unable to promote this to the queue because of the discrepancy between the lead's "up to 184" and the body of the text "184". I don't think the source used in the lead (which states 174) is reliable and you should be able to find a better additional reliable source for the total number killed. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:34, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
@Cwmhiraeth: I understand your concern, it is for this reason I added a foot note to the article stating that there is different casualty numbers, depending on source. This is pretty much the case for all of the Italian massacres I came across. The official commemorative site states 174 victims and lists them all by name. The comprehensive study financed by Germany and Italy of German massacres in Italy published in 2016 also lists 174 and also lists them by name. Especially the latter looks very reliable to me. I personally would either go with the number of 174 or find a different hook. Turismond (talk) 09:05, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
@Turismond: Perhaps it would be best if both hook and article state "at least 174" if we are going for ALT1, and then it will be accurate whatever the correct number is. Or we could use ALT2. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:23, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
@Cwmhiraeth: Sorry for the delay but I have now altered the article as suggested by you and also added the Atlas of Nazi and Fascist Massacres in Italy as a source to the number in the intro. The alteered hook would now be:
  • Approving ALT4 and restoring tick based on Ergo Sum's review. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:21, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this, but in the lead you have "at least 174 killed" (quoting a source that gives the number as exactly 174), and in the body you have the number of men, women, and children victims adding up to 184. I think you should add a note to the lead giving the other figure, and citing the source for that. Personally, I like ALT2 best. Yoninah (talk) 22:48, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah: Please see note A attached to the figure in the infobox explaining why the casualty figures vary. Is this sufficient? Turismond (talk) 00:07, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
  • I moved the note out of the infobox and into the lead. This looks sufficient, thanks. Restoring tick per Ergo Sum's review. Yoninah (talk) 00:11, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
