- This article is new enough and long enough. The hook facts for both hooks are cited inline and either could be used, the article is neutral, and I detected no copyright issues. The picture in the Telegraph (reference 1) clearly shows the problem of encroachment! Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:08, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
- @PratyushSinha101: I came to promote this, but before I do, could a conversion be added to "₹ 6,07,200"? As someone who is not from India, I found this number confusing, and although lakh is linked earlier in the article, the format could still be hard to understand for those unfamiliar with Indian numbers. Thanks. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 10:46, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: I have made some changes to Patna–Digha Ghat line, I hope the issues have been addressed. Please have a look. Pratyush (talk) 02:44, 7 July 2018 (UTC)
- @PratyushSinha101: The article is now inconsistent: it uses conversions to USD in some parts, but conversions to Western numbers in others. For consistency, it would be appropriate if only one kind of conversion (i.e. only USD conversions or only Western number conversions) are used. Thanks. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 02:49, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: Removed USD conversions and added Western number conversions. Pratyush (talk) 16:14, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

- Hi, I came by to promote this, but whatever was added doesn't have a US dollar sign in front of it, so I have no idea how much money we're talking about. The article is also using two kinds of denominations, lakhs and crores, and sometimes numbers are printed without saying what kind of denomination they are. Yoninah (talk) 17:12, 19 July 2018 (UTC)

- @Yoninah: Since the nominator hasn't nominated since the 19th, I'll try answering your questions above. The numbers without units are in Indian Rupees and were a conversion of the lakh and crore numbers to Western numbers: as I mentioned during my review, I suggested to the nominator to provide either a Western number or USD conversion as lakhs and crores may be confusing to non-Indian readers. As for "encroachments", the source provided itself is unclear as to encroachment by whom, though I interpreted it as being encroachment in general. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 11:50, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: I'm sorry, this doesn't answer my questions at all. Having two different denominations in the same article is confusing. And not knowing who's doing the encroaching ruins the hook. Since the nominator has dropped out of the discussion, closing this as unsuccessful. Yoninah (talk) 21:26, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: For the denominations part, there's this section at MOS:INDIA which can help explain the situation. As for the encroachments, I'll be looking for a source on that later. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 21:48, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: This search reveals some more hits about the encroachment, but unfortunately they are not very specific as to encroachment by whom, so I think it's supposed to be a general issue. From what I can understand, it appears that structures may have been illegally built next to the railways, and these have been the subject of lawsuits. - @Narutolovehinata5: Please be my guest if you would like to take this on, fix it up, and collect a DYK co-credit. Yoninah (talk) 23:17, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for the offer, but I generally am uncomfortable taking up other people's nominations, especially if they're outside my usual editing topic (i.e. Japanese media). I'll leave a message at WT:INDIA and see if they have any editors willing to take this up. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 23:20, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: OK, but this nomination is a month and a half old and I don't think it's our responsibility to fix up other people's nominations. Yoninah (talk) 23:24, 1 August 2018 (UTC)

- @Yoninah, Narutolovehinata5, and PratyushSinha101: I've copy-edited the article and added currency conversion to comply with MOS:CURRENCY etc. Would suggest using the the first suggested hook but tightening it to
- ALT0a: ... that Indian Railways runs loss-making trains on the Patna–Digha Ghat line to prevent encroachment?
- FYI, in this context, encroachment simply means people/businesses using the (unused) railway tracks and adjoining land for housing/business/marketplace-activities etc, which once established is practically very difficult to scale back. Abecedare (talk) 00:47, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
