General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: No - ?
  • Interesting: No - ?
Image: Image is freely licensed, used in the article, and clear at 100px.
QPQ: None required.

Overall: The article was created on August 1, and nominated within seven days. It is long enough and subsequently expanded significantly by User:Mariamnei, so I have added a DYKmake credit accordingly. The article meets sourcing requirements, and is neutral in tone. All of the images used in the article have a free license on the Commons. The nominated picture is clear at a low resolution, and used in the article, but I am unsure of its relevance since the hook is not worded correctly with (pictured) or similar. Please explicity mention how the picture is related to the hook. As for the hook, I'm not sure exactly where it is cited in the article. It seems more like a general overview of the article, rather than any specific point being cited. QPQ is not required for a new nominator. The article is a welcome contribution to Wikipedia, but this nominaton needs some attention to the hook to be promoted to DYK. Flibirigit (talk) 18:09, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

Thank you Flibirigit for your review. Here in an alternate hook that I hope will work better with the requirements you mentioned:

  • ALT1 ... that the Bar Kokhba revolt ultimately failed and resulted in many Jewish casualties, a general economic downturn and a prohibition on the residence of Jews in Jerusalem and its surrounding area. However, this prohibition was not always enforced, and there appears to have been a small Jewish community in Jerusalem towards the end of the second century.

Safrai, The Holy Assembly of Jerusalem, in Zion 4 (1957), pages 183-193 (Hebrew) (Source for second sentence).

In terms of the image, perhaps we can use the lead image currently in the article:

Beit Shearim, one of the galilean locations of the Sanhedrin

Please let me know if that works. Dovidroth (talk) 12:02, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

The proposed hook ALT1 is well beyond the 200-character limit. Please see WP:DYKCRIT for guidelines. If needed, I can seek assistance from others to help you propose hooks. Flibirigit (talk) 15:58, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
  • ALT2 ... that the Bar Kokhba revolt failed resulting in a prohibition of Jews living in Jerusalem, although this was not always enforced, and a Jewish community existed in Jerusalem by the end of the second century?

Sources: Goodman, M. (2000) ‘Judaea’, in A.K. Bowman, P. Garnsey, and D. Rathbone (eds.) The Cambridge Ancient History. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press (The Cambridge Ancient History), pp. 664–678 (Source for first sentence) and S. Hooks are supposed to be a single sentence ending in a question mark.--Launchballer 09:14, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
Laun - I have slightly edited this to combine into one sentence and added a question mark. Flibirigit - If this still doesn't work, can I take you up on your offer to seek assistance from others to help you propose hooks? Thanks. Dovidroth (talk) 09:20, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
I suggest reading WP:DYKHOOK. ALT2 is not only too long but not about the linked article.--Launchballer 09:43, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
  • ALT3 ... that the development of Judaism into its classical form occurred during the Rabbinic period (70-638 CE), which is seen as the second most consequential era in Jewish history after the Biblical period?

Source: Katz, Steven. “Introduction.” Introduction. In The Cambridge History of Judaism, edited by Steven T. Katz, 1–22. The Cambridge History of Judaism. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2006.

Better, although brackets aren't allowed, and the article says "is the second most important era" and the hook says "seen as the second most consequential era", which isn't the same thing. (I'm also not sure how much I like the fact that it's in the lead and not the body, but it is sourced.) Hooks may have a hard limit of 200 characters but shorter hooks usually get more views. How do you feel about the trimmed hook ALT3a: ... that the development of Judaism into its classical form occurred during the Rabbinic period?--Launchballer 11:08, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
Sounds good to me! Dovidroth (talk) 11:14, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
Alright. I'll give this a day or so for @Flibirigit: to object and then I'll approve it.--Launchballer 11:17, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
I will continue my review later today. Thanks. Flibirigit (talk) 11:24, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
I have struck ALT0, ALT1, ALT2 and ALT3, all of which are too long. ALT3a looks promising. Will continue reviewing this through the day. Best wishes. Flibirigit (talk) 14:39, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
@Dovidroth:, please clarify what exactly is "Judaism into its classical form". I cannot find anything explaining the term "classical Judaism". I've considered the images for the hook. While they are nice pictures, I feel like none of them adequate illustrate the proposed hook. It may be best to use a hook without an image. Flibirigit (talk) 17:50, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
Suggesting another hook. Flibirigit (talk) 18:03, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
