Raymond Butt
edit- ... that Raymond Butt compiled the first directory of every station, halt, and platform on the British railway passenger network?
- ALT1:... that ...?
- Reviewed: Laxmann's shrew
5x expanded by Philafrenzy (talk) and Redrose64 (talk) and Whispyhistory (talk). Nominated by Philafrenzy (talk) at 08:38, 28 February 2019 (UTC).
- Review underway. Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 12:13, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- A significant expansion from the original stub created last year (revision prior to expansion).
- Date of expansion and nomination is fine.
- All references are suitable and reliable.
- Length is fine.
Outstanding issues:
- After Abingdon he was at The King's School, Canterbury, not King's School Peterborough.
- "...jointly authored scientific papers on the Moon." A slight tweak of wording needed to avoid the impression he was sitting at his desk on the Moon...! Incidentally although this isn't directly cited, I am happy for this clause not to have one because the publications are referred to under "Selected publications".
- "In 1998 he retired from teaching and became an usher for ten years at Ashford County Court" and "He competed in the Silver Goblets for coxless pairs at the Henley Royal Regatta in 1968 and the following year was elected to membership of the Stewards' Enclosure": needs a tweak to avoid close paraphrasing of The Times obituary.
- Suggest "working as a reader" → "serving as a reader" at St Edward's (you could also link to Church of St. Edward the Martyr, Brookwood).
A pleasing article about a man I had the good fortune to know through a shared interest in one of his many (!) hobbies. This will be good to go when the fixes above have been made. Could this run on 23rd March, the first anniversary of his death? Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 12:55, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for such a thorough review. Will revise as you suggest. Philafrenzy (talk) 14:12, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
