Rifa-e-Aam Club
edit... that the Rifa-e-Aam Club, a historical building in Lucknow, India, once home to a royal book club, has fallen into ruin?Source: [1]
- Reviewed: Kanai Pal
- Comment: Feel free to suggest a nicer hook, I am a bit pressed for time ATM. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here
Created by Piotrus (talk), Vanamonde93 (talk), and Dharmadhyaksha (talk). Nominated by Piotrus (talk) at 05:26, 28 November 2016 (UTC).
- Length, date, hook checks out (although it is a bit of a stretch to was that the building was a "royal book club"). QPQ done. Close paraphrase not found. --Soman (talk) 16:51, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
- Comment I think that ", a historical building" could be trimmed in the interests of brevity. Edwardx (talk) 01:55, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
- Although this nomination has been reviewed, I did not feel happy to promote it. The "royal book club" claim seems dubious and the article does not state that the building has fallen into "ruin". Could we have another hook, perhaps referring to it having been "an important nationalist hangout"? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 07:09, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
- I'll ping User:Vanamonde93 and User:Dharmadhyaksha - any thoughts about an alt hook? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:45, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
How about ALT1, below? Vanamonde (talk) 10:33, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
- ALT1
... that the Rifa-e-Aam Club was described as a symbol of rebellion against British clubs, which did not permit entry to Indians?
- Pinging previous reviewers. @Soman, Edwardx, and Cwmhiraeth:. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 03:41, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
- Yeah, that is better. But was the club itself an act of rebellion or the founding of the club? I suggest
ALT2 that the founding of the Rifa-e-Aam Club was described as a symbol of rebellion against British clubs, which did not permit entry to Indians?--Soman (talk) 08:00, 27 December 2016 (UTC)- As the sources seem ambigious, I think that the ambigious alt as originally proposed is better. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 17:51, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

ALT3... that the Rifa-e-Aam Club is called Rifa-e-Aam Club because it is a club whose name is Rifa-e-Aam?ALT4 Did you know... anything about Rifa-e-Aam Club?
Proposing simpler alt3 & 4. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 04:03, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
- A reviewer is needed for the alt hooks, although if Soman or Cwmhiraeth would be willing to tick one of them, it would be much appreciated (Cwmhiraeth I know you do far more than your share of work here as it is, so I would understand if you ignored this...) Vanamonde (talk) 15:52, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if ALT3 and ALT4 are serious suggestions, but I think this derivative of ALT2 is better:
- ALT2b ... that the Rifa-e-Aam Club in Lucknow was open to everybody at a time when British clubs excluded Indians? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 20:08, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
- Cwmhiraeth, I'm fine with your proposed hook, and it does indeed flow better. I don't believe you have changed things enough to require a new reviewer. Vanamonde (talk) 13:16, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
- Confirming that this article meets newness, length, neutrality and policy criteria. Approving ALT2b, which is cited inline and is a derivative of ALT2, a hook proposed by Soman. Striking the remaining hooks. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 13:34, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
