- Article is new enough (created today). Article length at 1900+ is long enough. Article neutrality and sourcing good, with sufficient refs. No copyvio detected by Earwig. QPQ done. Hooks well within length and sourced. I don't either hook quite works as is. First, "parliament" is the government body. This is really about a building. So I think both hooks should say "... that the former parliament building". The building isn't really buried under a parking lot, the building burned down - so I don't think the hook is accurate. Alt1 works with the addition of building:
- ALT1a:
... that the former parliament building of pre-Confederation Canada was burned to the ground?
- or a new hook could still use parking lot, which is more "hooky":
- ALT2:
... that the former parliament building of pre-Confederation Canada is now a parking lot?
- I think the revised ALT2 looks best. Hooky and accurate. SounderBruce 05:09, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
- Good to go with ALT2 (preferred) or ALT1a. MB 14:47, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, I came by to promote this, but don't find ALT2 so hooky. It's the former building, it's from the pre-Confederation era, so why wouldn't it be destroyed? What do you think of this alt?
- ALT3:
... that a fish market became the provincial seat of Canada? - Also, there is a citation needed tag that needs to be addressed. Yoninah (talk) 22:08, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

- ALT1a:
- The new hook would not be accurate, as the fish market came after the burning of the original building (which housed the government). Perhaps the following hook:
- ALT4:
...that Canada's former parliament building later became a fish market, and then a parking lot?

- Thanks for taking care of the cite. But the hook is not hooky. Why do you have to spell everything out?
- ALT3a:
... that a fruit and vegetable market became the provincial seat of Canada?Yoninah (talk) 08:53, 3 May 2017 (UTC)

- Thanks. New reviewer needed for ALT3a. Pinging original reviewer, @MB:. Yoninah (talk) 18:24, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
- The closest citation to the hook fact ([1]) confirms that St. Anne's Market became the seat of the first Parliament. But it doesn't say it was a "fruit and vegetable" market, it just says "public market". Do you have a better source? MB 18:55, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
- None of the references seem to have a direct and specific mention of fruits and vegetables. A mistake on my part. How about this for a new hook:
- ALT5
...that a public market was the provincial seat of Canada before it burned to the ground?

- @MB: What does burning to the ground have to do with it? Can't you make it short and hooky:
- ALT5a:
...that a public market was the provincial seat of Canada?Yoninah (talk) 15:07, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
- Yoninah, I did not receive a ping on this and just noticed it. Did you mean to ask SounderBruce since it's his article and his hook? But I'll give my thoughts anyway. I don't see a problem with the hook. The building burning to the ground has a lot to do with the article. How many government headquarter buildings are destroyed by rioters? I find it intriguing and hooky. More so than the building previously being a market - that strikes me as boring. So I'll throw out ALT5b for consideration (which is similar to ALT1a).
- ALT5b:
...that rioters burned the first provincial seat of Canada?MB 23:46, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
- @MB: yes, that's good; it adds a little more kick to the burning to the ground part. I'm willing to approve it if SounderBruce approves. BTW the same source (footnote 1) verifies ALT3a, above. Yoninah (talk) 08:27, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: ALT5b is all good with me. SounderBruce 19:24, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

Returned from prep per discussion at WT:DYK#We don't need no water. Yoninah (talk) 14:59, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
- It seems to me that all that needs to be done here is add the word "permanent" to the hook, per the Toronto Star article:
- ALT5c: ... that rioters burned the first permanent provincial seat of Canada? Yoninah (talk) 15:03, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
- Alternately, ALT3a is verified by footnote 1:
- ALT3a:
... that a fruit and vegetable market became the provincial seat of Canada?Yoninah (talk) 15:18, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
- I approve of ALT5c as nominator; ALT3a is still a bit dull for a hook. Just need this to finally get through to the front page. SounderBruce 18:48, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
- ALT5C looks good to me and if someone would like to formally give it, or some other hook, a tick I will be able to promote this again! Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:25, 13 May 2017 (UTC)
- New reviewer needed to approve ALT5c. Alternately, Cwmhiraeth, you could approve it and another editor could promote it to prep. Yoninah (talk) 16:21, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
- ALT5c is good to go. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 17:33, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
Would it be possible to hold this for July 1 (Canada Day)? SounderBruce 06:49, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
