edit

Sun God depicted riding his chariot

Created by Nvvchar (talk). Self-nominated at 14:03, 20 June 2015 (UTC).

  • New enough (created and dyk nom june 20), long enough at 3k+, good sources. Hook good length at 154 char including spaces. Image traces back correctly to Columbia prof., original antique referenced to Christie's, now dead link, AGF that she isn't posting a copyvio accurately dated image to prior to 1900. Corrected subject-verb error in hook. Brianhe (talk) 05:24, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
One potential problem with citation verification, probably just my bad Sanskrit. Article says it is "one of the 15 Samanya Upanishads" but the source is a list that appears to offer 25. Am I misreading? — Brianhe (talk) 05:43, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
15→25 matches sources now. — Brianhe (talk) 17:16, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
My ignorance again, is Atharvangiras a plural person, as in "Atharvangiras are..." or "Atharvangiras is..."? — Brianhe (talk) 07:04, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
  • @Brianhe:. Thanks for the review. I have corrected the figure to 25. Atharvangiras is a combination word of two sages Atharva and Angirasa and hence plural "are" may be a proper grammatical usage.--Nvvchar. 17:09, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
OK, the plurality of Atharvangiras is described in a way I can understand in the article, but when it's condensed for the hook, it gets weird. What if you used the apt phrase "the sages Atharvangiras" in the hook? Could you propose an alt1 hook with this? — Brianhe (talk) 17:14, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
  • @Brianhe:Right. AlT1 Hook is proposed ... that in the Surya Upanishad, the sages Atharvangiras, extol the virtues of Surya (pictured), the Sun God?--Nvvchar. 18:58, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
  • That is much more readable (I removed a superfluous comma). Signing off on this DYK with alt1 hook. Brianhe (talk) 20:49, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
