  • ... that Theater Magdeburg plays musical theatre (example pictured) in a former house for variety shows, and plays in a former residence? Source: several

  • Comment The hook is confusingly worded and somewhat misleading. First of all, the illustrated performance is an opera not musical theatre. Secondly, the current Theater Magdeburg opera house was never a variety theatre. There was a variety theatre on that site but it was completely destroyed in World War II. A new theatre, the Maxim-Gorki-Theater, was built on the site in the 1950s (more or less replicating the appearance of the old theatre) and later renamed Theater der Landeshauptstadt. That is the one now used for operas. However, it is correct to say that the Theater Magdeburg's playhouse is a former private residence. I'll try to think of some alternative hooks. Also, the image for the original hook is not very illuminating, either of the opera house or of the opera being performed there, and doesn't work in such a small size. • ALT1:... that Theater Magdeburg's opera house (pictured) is a re-built operetta and variety theatre destroyed in World War II? float right
  • ALT2:... that Theater Magdeburg's playhouse (pictured) began life as a private villa and was occupied by American troops at the end of World War II? float right
Striking the original. - I confess I keep having difficulties translating "Musiktheater" to musical theatre (and "Partie" to part). Is there an English term to describe opera/operetta/musical/ballett all in one? - I'd like to mention more than just one house, to illustrate that they perform various things. ALT1: if sticking to one house we might perhaps add that the town had a "real" opera house from 1876 - Bayreuth comes to mind ;) - We have many images of opera houses, but not many of performances, and the Freischütz image strikes me as attractive by geometric design, even if you can't see details. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:19, 4 July 2017 (UTC)
Personally, I think a DYK hook should pique the reader's interest to actually read the article and find out more, not basically tell them what's in it. However, I wouldn't object to a "combined hook" as long as it's succinct, clearly written and accurate. In this case, I think it might be very hard to do. I'm afraid there is no English word combining all four types of music performances. Voceditenore (talk) 16:47, 4 July 2017 (UTC)
  • This article is new enough and long enough. Going for ALT1 which has an inline citation for the hook facts. The image is appropriately licensed and the article is neutral. I detected no copyright problems. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:36, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
