Two Pesos, Inc. v. Taco Cabana, Inc.

edit

Length and history verified. Text of the Court's decision makes ALT2 preferred—it's still funny but not misleading, as the article establishes that Two Pesos no longer exists. As for the main hook, I'd take it AGF since the source is not online, but frankly it's rather dull; companies buy other companies all the time for large amounts of money. Thanks for the review! I was just trying to be clever in the original hook -- the premise being that two pesos are worth much less than $22 million. But in general, I agree that there is nothing particularly interesting about one company acquiring another. -- Notecardforfree (talk) 23:03, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
@Notecardforfree: This is entirely up to you, but I think the main hook would be amazing for the April Fools main page, if you're particularly patient. Considering the allowances made for cleverly presented hooks on April Fools, we could even remove the capitals on "Two Pesos" and further confuse things to present a hook such as the below. If you want to do that, let me know. Removing tick until you respond, so this isn't promoted in the meantime. ~ RobTalk 08:07, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
ALT3: ... that Taco Cabana traded $22 million for two pesos in 1993?
@BU Rob13: It would be an honor to have this appear for April fools! I am certainly in no rush. I am not familiar with the procedures for April Fools DYK hooks, so please feel free to rephrase the hook, though I think ALT3 is very clever! Should I move this template over to Wikipedia:April Fool's Main Page/Did You Know? Thanks, -- Notecardforfree (talk) 14:50, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
I can move it over in an hour or so, although this will likely sit there unreviewed for a good long while. I can't approve ALT3 since I proposed it. ~ RobTalk 14:57, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
It looks like the procedure is to leave it in the main queue until it's reviewed, so ALT3 needs to be reviewed with the April Fool's criteria in mind. It's also listed on the April Fool's page now. For the experienced folk floating around, feel free to correct me. I've never dealt with April Fool's stuff. ~ RobTalk 15:15, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
That sounds great. Thanks for your help! -- Notecardforfree (talk) 15:17, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
  • ALT3 looks fine. See you next year on the front page. Drmies (talk) 03:27, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
  • I think the original hook is better than alt3, but just needs the "Two Pesos" decapitalized and delinked, as follows:
  • ALT4: ... that Taco Cabana bought two pesos for $22 million? Or alternatively:
  • ALT5: ... that Taco Cabana paid $22 million for two pesos? Gatoclass (talk) 07:18, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Approving ALT5. ALT4 is also fine, but ALT5's wording sounds a bit better (paid vs. bought) if we're going for confusion about Two Pesos being a business. ~ RobTalk 18:42, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

Suggested tweak:

- the idea is to disguise the deception a little better. BU Rob13, any chance you could review the above? Gatoclass (talk) 04:40, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

  • @Gatoclass: I'm not a fan of "got". It's a generic word that's horrible at describing anything. How about ALT7 instead? Not striking ALT6 yet, but feel free to do so if you agree with me that this would be better. ~ RobTalk 04:52, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
I think "traded" is a little too obvious. Let's just stick to ALT5 then. Thanks for the quick response :) Gatoclass (talk) 05:01, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
