... that Ernest Renan abandoned his excavations of Umm al-Amad when he found the ruins (pictured) were only two thousand years old? Source: "Vella, 2000, p.31: "Ernest Renan was there in 1861 but abandoned the excavations he undertook when he noted that the site was of Hellenistic date."

Interesting site, on good sources, offline sources accepted AGF. The image is licensed but awfully pale, - I think the older one would have more chances to be taken. I like the hook! - A few things in the article (not needed for approval, only the qpq is needed): The word "site" appears a bit too often in close succession. The lead should be a summary of things referenced below, and then needs no references.
