William Etty

William Etty, 1823
William Etty, 1823
  • ALT0:... that the work of William Etty (pictured) was considered so obscene, the press were concerned that it discouraged women from entering rooms where it was on display?
  • ALT1:... that William Etty (pictured) introduced both the nude and the still life to English art?
  • ALT2:... that William Etty (pictured) was described as "very frequently doing as little good for mankind as the priest who preaches his sermon in Latin"?
  • ALT3:... that William Etty (pictured) was described as "Slovenly in attire, short and awkward in body" and "'one of the oddest looking creatures' in a Young Lady's eyes"?

  • Comment: Etty's life is a fascinating story, but a lot of the most interesting parts don't fit into 200 characters. My preference is for ALT0 or ALT3, but have provided assorted alternatives. – iridescent 10:27, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

  • Very nice article on a fascinating subject. Obviously long enough, new enough, no copyvio/neutrality problems/etc., QPQ done. All hooks sourced but I agree that 0 and 3 are best, preference for ALT0. Opabinia regalis (talk) 04:49, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
