General: Article is new enough and long enough |

Policy compliance:
- Adequate sourcing:
- Neutral:
- Free of copyright violations, plagiarism, and close paraphrasing: - Some close paraphrasing.
Article: "He pleaded guilty to 14 counts of serious sexual assault – later categorized as rape following changes in the law – and two charges of indecent assault".
Source: "William Goad was jailed for life in 2004 after he pleaded guilty to 14 counts of serious sexual assault – now categorised as rape following changes in the law – and two charges of indecent assault."
Hook eligibility:
- Cited: - main hook clearly supported by source.
However, ALT1 and ALT2 both assert a figure of "up to 3,500", sourced to the Daily Mail, which says "He was said to have as many as 3,500 victims". This phrase "was said" is unattributed, and it is similraly unattributed in later DM report. Where does this figure come from? Is it a police estimate, or a journalist's guess?
Per WP:EXCEPTIONAL "any exceptional claim requires multiple high-quality sources". A pair of weaselly-worded DM articles doesn't meet that test. - Interesting:
- Other problems: - main hook is 208 characters, which exceeds 200 max. ALT2 is ungrammatical (did you mean "employed"?). ALT1 fine, aspart from sourcing issues above
QPQ: Done. |
Overall: I suggest: 1/ fixing the close paraphrasing; 2/ clarifying in the article text that the Daily Mail is the source of the 3500-victims claim; 3/ creating some new hooks based on the main hook, but trimmed to include fewer facts. Please {{ping}} me when my input is needed again. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:34, 10 January 2016 (UTC)
- @BrownHairedGirl: I believe I have rectified this issues with the article. The 3,500 figure, while covered by many varying sources, could not be found. I found a similar claim which will be listed below. Here are a couple of new hooks: Jolly Ω Janner 23:57, 10 January 2016 (UTC)
- ALTb ... that the British businessman William Goad fled to Thailand after police got suspicious of him raping children only to return five years later and be sentenced to life imprisonment?
- ALTc ... that William Goad fled to Thailand after police got suspicious of him raping children only to return five years later, get caught using his credit card and be sentenced to life imprisonment?
- ALTd ... that the British businessman William Goad fled to Thailand after police got suspicious of him raping children?
- ALTe ... that the British child rapist William Goad fled to Thailand only to get caught using his credit card upon return and be sentenced to life imprisonment?
- ALT3 ... that at William Goad's sentencing, a Queen's Counsel member said "It is believed there has been no single defendant with more victims that this man"?
- Good to go with ALTd or ALTe.
The issues with the article have been resolved. Most of the new hooks still feel wordy and unwieldy, and ALT3 misrepresents what a QC is ... but ALTe and ALTd are probably the best. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 00:24, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
