- ... that Evelyn Wood called off the Zungwini Mountain skirmishes after learning of the Zulu victory over the British at the Battle of Isandlwana? Source: "Wood ordered the column to fall in, and, against the advice of some of his enior officers, read to the men the note he had received. The destruction of part - if not all - of the centre column had ruined the original invasion plan.
