Zungwini Mountain skirmishes
- ... that Evelyn Wood called off the Zungwini Mountain skirmishes after learning of the Zulu victory over the British at the Battle of Isandlwana? Source: "Wood ordered the column to fall in, and, against the advice of some of his enior officers, read to the men the note he had received. The destruction of part - if not all - of the centre column had ruined the original invasion plan. With this right flank now exposed, Wood was in grave danger and had little option but to withdraw closer to the border" from page 196 of:David, Saul (2004). Zulu: The Heroism and Tragedy of the Zulu War of 1879. London: Viking. ISBN 0-670-91474-6.
