This template allows the Hawaii project to control the formatting of Hānai relationships in infoboxes. Hānai is a form of adoption that was popular both in upper class and commoner families. It was usually practised within the extended family, giving status that was roughly equal to a pure blood relationship.

Usage

edit

The syntax for this template is:

 Jane Doe {{Hanai|John Doe}}

Which produces: Jane Doe
John Doe (hānai)

Typical use is in the "|mother=", "|father=", or "|issue=" parameters for royalty, or for the person box, |parents= or |children=. The line break is automatically included, unless a second parameter is given. This is used for only children that are hānai into the given family. e.g.

 issue= {{Hanai|John Doe|only}}

produces: John Doe (hānai) [note on the same line]
