This template has a large number of parameters, some of which, for historical reasons have duplicates that have been deprecated. Please note that parameter names are case-sensitive.

Only one parameter is required:

  • name - The name that will appear as the title of the infobox. Please do not change the colour of the text here, do so in background below.

The remaining parameters are as follows (in the order that they will appear in the template output):

  • background - the background colour of name parameter, either as a "colour name" (e.g. forestgreen), a hexadecimal value (e.g. #0093cf), or a colour template (e.g. #{{C2C colour}}). If the background is dark, please change the text colour by appending the CSS color selector. (e.g. background = black;color:white or background = #806040;color:#ffffdd ). Note that quotation marks are not permitted in these CSS statements. If |background= is present, but blank, the default is white; but if this parameter is omitted entirely, the default background colour is #eee.
  • image - The filename for the infobox image.
  • imagealt - Alternative text for image.
  • imagesize - (or image_size) The size (width) of the images in pixels (as in imagesize=200). If |imagesize= is present, but blank the image will appear full size; but if this parameter is omitted entirely, the default size is 300 pixels wide.
  • caption - The image caption that will be displayed.
  • interiorimage - The filename for the second infobox image.
  • interiorimagealt - Alternative text for interiorimage.
  • interiorcaption - The second image caption that will be displayed.
  • service - The dates that the vehicles were in service, separated by an en dash for a range or two years (e.g. 1964–1976), or a spaced en dash if one or both sides of the range have a space in them (e.g. 12 July 1964 – 4 April 1976).
  • manufacturer – The company that manufactured the train.
  • designer - if another company designed the vehicle.
  • assembly - where it was produced (city, country).
  • ordernumber - The Order number or Lot number the vehicles were procured under.
  • factory - The factory at which the vehicles were made (if manufacturer had more than one factory).
  • family - The type or range of manufacturer’s vehicles that the vehicles comes from (e.g. British Rail Mark 3).
  • replaced - The vehicles that were replaced by these vehicles.
  • yearconstruction - (or constructed) The dates that the vehicles were under construction, separated by an en dash (e.g. 1964–1976).
  • yearservice - The date that the vehicles first entered service.
  • refurbishment - The dates that the vehicles were refurbished, separated by an en dash (e.g. 1964–1976).
  • yearscrapped - The dates that the vehicles were scrapped, separated by an en dash (e.g. 1964–1976).
  • numberconstruction - The quantity of vehicles under construction. construction also works, but is deprecated.
  • numberbuilt - The quantity of vehicles manufactured. Built also works, but is deprecated.
  • numberservice - The quantity of vehicles in service.
  • numberpreserved - The quantity of vehicles preserved.
  • numberscrapped - The quantity of vehicles scrapped.

  • depots - The maintenance depots to which the vehicles were assigned.
  • lines - The lines or routes to which the vehicles were assigned.

  • width - The width of each vehicles – please use {{convert}}.
  • height - The height of each vehicles – please use {{convert}}.
  • lowfloor – The low floor proportion of trams.
  • floorheight - The height of the vehicles’ floor above the rail.
  • platformheight - Standard measurement is from top of the rail.
  • entrylevelorstep - The type of entry of the vehicles. State whether level (if platform height and floor height is the same or with a minimal difference) or step (if the platform height and floor height has a big difference and requires steps).
  • doors - The number and type of doors fitted.
  • art-sections - The number of coaches/power vehicles formed into an articulated trainset.
  • wheeldiameter - The diameter of the wheels (can be expressed new/worn).
  • wheelbase - The wheelbase of the train. State whether train, vehicle, bogie (truck), or bogie centers.
  • maxspeed - The maximum permitted speed of the vehicles – please use {{convert}}.
  • weight - The weight of the vehicles – please use {{convert}}.
  • axleload - The maximum axle load of the rail vehicle(s).
  • steep gradient - (or gradient) at per thousand or at per hundred %
  • traction - The traction system of the vehicles (if electric multiple unit).
  • engine - The prime mover(s) used in the vehicle (if diesel multiple unit or generator car).
  • enginetype - (or Enginetype) The type of engine(s)/prime mover(s).
  • cylindercount - The number of cylinders in an engine.
  • cylindersize - The diameter (bore) and length (stroke) of each cylinder.
  • displacement - The swept volume of each cylinder or each engine.
  • traction motors - The type/model of traction motors.

  • tractiveeffort - The tractive effort of the train's propulsion system.
  • transmission - The transmission used (e.g. electric/hydraulic/mechanical), if fitted with engine(s).
  • acceleration - The acceleration rate of the vehicles.
  • deceleration - The deceleration rate of the vehicles.
  • aux - The type of any auxiliaries fitted, if any.
  • powersupply - The type of any power supply fitted, if any.
  • hvac - The type of train heating, ventilation and air conditioning fitted, if any.
  • electricsystem - The voltage (+ frequency and/or phases if AC) of the power supply to electric multiple units, as well as the power source (e.g. overhead line, third rail).
  • collectionmethod - The current collection method used on electric multiple units (e.g. pantograph, contact shoe).
  • uicclass – The UIC classification of powered/unpowered axles
  • aarwheels - (or wheel arrangement) The AAR wheel arrangement of powered cars.
  • wheels driven – The number of wheels driven by the engine(s)/motor(s).
  • bogies - The type of bogies of trucks fitted, if known.
  • minimum curve - minimum size of a curve the vehicle can pass.
