Template:More footnotes needed/doc

When to use

edit

This template indicates that the article cites a sufficient number of reliable sources, but uses an inappropriate combination of inline citations and general references. All material in articles must be verifiable, but outside of featured articles and good articles Wikipedia does not require the use of inline citations except to support direct quotations, material that has been challenged or is likely to be challenged and contentious material about living persons.

An inline citation is any system that associates a given piece of an article with a specific citation. Do not add this tag to articles that use the "wrong" style of inline citation.

For articles that do not contain any general references, but that need a greater number of citations, use {{More citations needed}} instead.

How to use

edit

To add this template to an article, copy and paste:

or

Both options result in the same output.

The template can be placed in the article's "References" section, or, as appropriate for the citation style, "Notes" section.

An optional unnamed parameter:

will change the word "article" in "This article...", e.g. {{More footnotes needed/doc|list}} or {{More footnotes needed/doc|table}}. When used this way, the template cannot be placed in the "References" section.

This template will add the article to Category:Articles lacking in-text citations.

The template also has an optional |BLP= parameter. If its value is yes, this will indicate that the article is a biography of a living person, which have higher standards for further reading and external links.

You can add |small=yes to make the template smaller and left-justified. This form factor is primarily used with |section and when the template is put in the References section (typically after {{Reflist}} and before a pile of "general references" that are not cited inline in the article).

To change the output "largely unverified" to "partially unverified", use the parameter |partial=yes or |partial=y. This is appropriate for article that do have a significant number of inline citations but which also have a pile of references that have not been cited inline. (Do not confuse this with articles that in one section of references use short inline citations to the same works more fully specified in a second references section.)

The following parameter is obsolete and deprecated: |suffix= (simply use the first unnamed parameter).
