Usage
editThis template is modelled on Template:taxobox, and uses the parameters listed there.
It can be used for either paraphyletic or polyphyletic groups that have a formal scientific name. It can also be used for concepts represented by a common name that has no formal scientific name.
This template is compatible with the automated taxobox system. |auto=
is used to fetch the automatic taxonomy hierarchy. |parent=
or |taxon=
are used to select the lowest taxonomy template to display. |taxon=
should be used when it is desired to display the lowest rank in bold and not as a link; this will be the case when a formal scientific name exists (there must be a taxonomy template with the same name as the value specified in taxon in order to display in bold and not linked). |parent=
should be used when it is desired to display the lowest rank as a blue-link; this will be the case when the subject of the article is a common name.
The taxa parameters like regnum, classis, etc. are for a taxon which includes all of the organisms in the paraphyletic group (for example chordata or tetrapoda in an article for reptile). The classification can be omitted if there is no useful way to specify it (for example if some cyanobacteria are considered to be seaweeds the only relevant classification on the seaweed page would be Life).
It also uses the parameters includes
and excludes
(meant for taxa which are cladistically included), intended to list taxa that are or are not included in the group - use either or both according to taste.
