When used with the "Redirect category shell" (Rcat shell) template:
This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:
|
- Template {{Redirect category shell}} may be used to add one or more rcat templates, along with their parameters and categories, to a redirect. For more information, see the documentation page below.
When used by itself:
- From a domain name: This is a redirect from a domain name to an article about an associated entity or website, which is more often referred to by its official name than by its domain name.
- Use this redirect link (without piping) when the link in the context specifically concerns the website. Other pages using this link should be updated to replace the text with the redirect target (again, without piping).
- Use the
|domain=
parameter to specify the top-level domain name, for categorisation.
This is the template sandbox page for Template:R from domain name (diff). See also the companion subpage for test cases. |
This template is used on approximately 9,700 pages and changes may be widely noticed. Test changes in the template's /sandbox or /testcases subpages, or in your own user subpage. Consider discussing changes on the talk page before implementing them. |
This template should not be substituted nor used to tag soft redirects. |
If you plan to make breaking changes to this template, move it, or nominate it for deletion, please notify Twinkle's users and maintainers at Wikipedia talk:Twinkle as a courtesy, as the standard installation of Twinkle adds and removes this template. Thank you! |
Usage
edit- The
|domain=
parameter (or simply the first unnamed parameter) should be used to specify the domain name, such as.com
or.org
. - This redirect category (rcat) template populates Category:Redirects from domain names, or the appropriate subcategory as specified by the
|domain=
parameter. - It also populates Category:Unprintworthy redirects by default. In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Mainspace redirects from website domain names are not suitable for a printed version. In other words they are unprintworthy.
Please do not alter the printworthy settings of this rcat without first notifying the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, who are responsible for any and all materials, including redirects, that go into a printed version of Wikipedia. |
- Add this rcat to a redirect page (not a talk-page redirect) in the following manner:
#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]]
{{Rcat shell|
{{R from domain name|domain=}}
{{R unprintworthy}}
}}
- Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information, see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:
#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]]
{{R from domain name|domain=}}
- This is in accord with instructions found at WP:REDCAT.
- Use this template for redirects that are domain names and that represent the article they target. An example of a domain name of a website that targets its article is www.nytimes.comThe New York Times.
