The optional (user type) supports any one of the following five values:

Causes the template to display as follows for students:

Causes the template to display as follows for alumni:

Causes the template to display as follows for staff:

Sul Ross State University

faculty

Causes the template to display as follows for faculty:

support

Causes the template to display as follows for supporters:

SRThis user supports
Sul Ross State University

Otherwise, if the parameter is left blank, the template will display by default:

SRThis user attends or attended
Sul Ross State University

The optional nocat= supports the following Boolean values:

true

Allows users to display the userbox on their talk pages without being listed at the Wikipedians by Alma Mater category page.

false

This is the default value that will list users using the template at the Wikipedians by Alma Mater category page. If the user so desires, this value may either be left blank or the nocat= may be excluded entirely.
