This is a documentation subpage for Template:Video game release/abbr. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
Usage
editThis template takes a country code or abbreviation as input and outputs a wikilink to the country with the code or abbreviation as the link's text. It natively supports the typical region abbreviations NA, EU, AUS, PAL, SEA, AS, SA, OC and WW, and transcludes all ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 codes, as well as a smaller number of selected ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 codes.
The template automatically converts the input to upper case.
Note that WP:VG/DATE asserts several guidelines/rules about where and when (and which) abbreviations may be used in video game infoboxes, specifically:
"Release dates should be provided from primarily English-speaking regions, including North America, Europe, and Australia/New Zealand. If the video game is first released in a non-English country, commonly in Japan, then that should also be stated ... Releases in non-English countries should not be included in the infobox (unless it is first released in a non-English country), but if determined to be necessary to include, can be discussed further in the article's body."
