Add dates?
editMaybe it would be a good idea to add dates in brackets after each entry? Might help the non-specialist reader, and it wouldn't make the infobox too big.--Kotniski (talk) 07:26, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
- Try it, we will see how it looks.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 13:03, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
- It might be a bit busy, but dates would be good, plus there are much, much larger infoboxes. Do we want a date range on the title as well? —PētersV (talk) 16:30, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
What was Poland at the time of PLC
editAt the time of PLC, Poland had it own polity within the Commonwealth and it was called the Crown of the Polish Kingdom, which along with GDL comprised the PLC. The Crown was the administrative division of Poland. The PLC was a wider body. Calling PLC as Poland in this template whose title says "Poland" is an attempt to usurp the wider polity by calling Poland-Lithuania as Poland. --Irpen 03:25, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- Come on, the fact that it's called "Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth" makes the situation quite clear. Let's stop making the template less good as a navigational tool for the purpose of making political points.--Kotniski (talk) 09:32, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- Indeed. One could as well vandalize {{History of Russia}} by removing Russian Empire and USSR from it - after all, both of them ruled over non-Russian lands and nations... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 16:10, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- Well the common term for the Austria/Prussia/Russia partitioning is the "Partitions of Poland" even when it's taken to mean the whole of the PLC. Perhaps if editor Lokyz (who looks out for Lithuanian interests) doesn't believe the template is usurping, then we could agree that it is fine as-is. If editors in general (perhaps outside our community of empirically predictable editorial conflict) feel Poland-Lithuania would be more encompassing, I'd support that as well. The primary issue is whether the template is useful and informative, which is yes. If editors disagree with the title, then please also put forth an improved title. The rise and fall of the PLC and rebirth of Poland and Lithuania as independent modern states is a microcosm of the struggle over territory in central/eastern Europe. I've already suggested "Poland-Lithuania" for "Polish territories" for the PLC administrative division article. —PētersV (talk) 15:04, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
