Reason for re-creation

edit

I have recreated this template because it is extremely useful and time-saving when translating railway line articles from de.wikipedia.

I realise that, in many articles, this template has been replaced by {{Infobox rail line}}, but the result is less than impressive: the new template often doesn't have the same width or colour scheme, it and does not seem to display as much information and it does not dovetail onto the route display template. Plus it involves all the hassle of copying data from one template to another. I have no objection to {{Infobox rail line}} being made available, although hopefully it will be improved, but this one should not be discarded. --Bermicourt (talk) 21:15, 17 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Result of deletion review

edit

The outcome of the deletion review was that the template should be relisted. See Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2009 March 25 and Wikipedia:Templates for deletion. --Bermicourt (talk) 18:57, 31 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

In this, the English language Wiki, the following is very desirable. The km and mm at the end become redundant. Why not use the existing templates that are template:Infobox rail network; template:Infobox rail; template:Infobox SG rail (with or without | metric = yes); template:Infobox rail line Peter Horn 18:31, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Per cent vs. Per mil mess

edit

German articles use exclusively per mil when dealing with railway grades, while in English sources, per cent is usually used, including this template. In many articles wher was this template taken directly from german wikipedia, numbers weren't modified accordingly. There's a question what to do:

  • keep template as-is, modify every number to per cent
  • modify template to show per mille, keep original german numbers
  • modify template to divide german number by ten (if WP's templates can do that)

and then fix all articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by David Jaša (talkcontribs) 13:11, 9 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

As the above comment obviously resulted in nobody doing anything, I've decided to be bold. The transcluded documentation for the NEIGUNG parameter is pretty clear that it is expecting a maximum gradient in permille not percent, so it is clear that the way the template is presenting the value is a bug. I've fixed that bug, so it now displays in permille rather than percent. -- Starbois (talk) 17:47, 9 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I've been alerted to this discussion, but am not sure what I can add. Originally there was no problem because the template automatically displayed in "per mil" for stuff transferred from German wiki e.g. "20‰" with a link that explained what "per mil" was. Whilst not following the usual English convention, at least it worked. This seems to have gone wrong when we tried to change the template to display % only. If we can find a way to convert the data to % without causing problems, fine, but I am not expert enough to do that - I'm just a translator. --Bermicourt (talk) 06:06, 29 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
I have started, but not finished, to go through all German railway articles manually and make the change where ever needed. I would check back with the German version to see what the original "per mil" or "pro mil" (i.e. "20‰") was and then put the corresponding per cent (i.e. "2%") in the infobox of the English article. Additional parameter, overhead lines or third rail

edit

This template needs to be able to tell if the electricety is delivered by overhead lines or third rail. Peter Horn User talk 01:09, 18 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

That would be the German rquivalent of "|Electrification ="? Peter Horn User talk 16:53, 18 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I did some "surgery" in the template itself, now it is a question of correcting all the articles where this template is used. Peter Horn User talk 20:09, 28 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
I closed all three boxes by adding a |} because without that, the tables were being merged and pushed to the bottom of the page. --Redrose64 (talk) 09:57, 17 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

BS-Daten in Ferropedia

Hi, we are trying to implement BS-DAten in www.ferropedia.es ...with mixed results: Here is a try

Clarification required

edit
  • |STROMG Power system Voltage, if DC
  • |STROMW Power system Voltage/frequency if AC
  • |STROMD Power system Voltage/frequency if 3-phase
  • |STROM railway electrification system
Does this refer to the voltages/frequencies of the railway electrification systems or to head-end power? Peter Horn User talk 00:06, 17 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Template:Infobox rail line tends to include the voltage/frequency under the "el" (STROM) parameter. On a second look these parameters refer tp the line power. Peter Horn User talk 00:20, 17 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Former track gauge

edit

Template:BS-daten/doc does not provide a parameter that allows to list a former track gauge in use before a track gauge conversion. Peter Horn User talk 00:31, 17 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
