Templates are permitted in article Categories

edit

This edit summary:

templates don't go into main cats only template cats, standard practice

is not compatible with this from WP:SORTKEY:

To place entries after the main alphabetical list, use sort keys beginning with tilde ("~"). Other characters used for this purpose are "µ" (mu), used to place stub categories at the end of subcategory lists; "β" (beta) for Wikipedia books; "ι" (iota) for images; "ρ" (rho) for portals; "τ" (tau) for templates; and "ω" (omega) for WikiProjects. Since the headings on category pages are capital letters, "β" will appear beneath "Β"; "ι" beneath "Ι"; "ρ" beneath "Ρ"; "τ" beneath "Τ"; "ω" beneath "Ω"; etc. Several of these resemble Latin letters B, I, P etc., but will sort after Z.

What is the point of having separate article and template categories and then putting templates in both? You can do it, it just makes no sense. Look at the Ireland templates category and tell me how many are in article categories? How is it an aid to navigation? If you're in the category then you have come there from an article in it, and all the articles in the category are in the template, which is on the article.
