The logic ({{2 CREATED}}–{{3 DESTROYED}}) doesn't degrade gracefully, as omitting fields 2 and 3 leaves the ugly (CREATED-DESTROYED), and forces the user of the template to research those dates, which is fraught with error, and will put off adoption of the template. I don't feel the additional date information is worth the extra work, as the history of the entity is only one click away anyway.
The logic {{2}} would be better so Battle category by participant|Chad|(1950-present) and Battle category by participant|Chad would both read fine. Of courseremoving an argument is awkward, so on balance, I'd remove both to have a clean solution.
template Battle category by conflict is set up the same way, but there having the dates seems more directly relevant to the category, as it defines a single episode in a country's history which this category does not. Vicarage (talk) 15:30, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
