Question
editWhy is Promontory listed as an unincorporated area? Stephen Carr's book The Historical Guide to Utah Ghost Towns labels Promontory as a ghost town, not an unincorporated area. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 23:42, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
- That's a good question - I think the main reason would be because that's how Nyttend created the template. I would support Promontory remaining an unincorporated area, however, since there is a populated community there centered around the ATK complex and the Autoliv factory. It's an active, happening place and not really what I would think of as a ghost town. Anyone else have an opinion? GreenGlass(talk) 04:36, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- I agree. Nyttend added it as an unincorporated community before we started adding Ghost towns sections to these templates. But I've never thought of Promontory as a ghost town, no matter what the book says. If we could get some reliable sources and develop the article to say more about the settlement beyond just the Golden Spike, maybe its classification would become clearer. - The reason I asked was because there really was a town called Promontory in that area. I think the visitor center of the Golden Spike National Historic Site has the post office sign on display. Anyway, I get what you're saying. Thanks for the responses. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 23:03, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
