Shouldn't we add fructans. --kupirijo (talk) 18:13, 21 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Done. --Arcadian (talk) 20:35, 21 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Excellent! Thanks. --kupirijo (talk) 22:27, 21 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oh and something else. Shouldn't the "a" in N-Acetylglucosamine be small to match glucose and fructose or vice versa? --kupirijo (talk) 22:30, 21 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

How about pectin? As a complex heteropolysacchride, perhaps it should be in a new hereropolysacchride section? I'm not very knowledgeable in chemistry, but it does seem like pectin should be in here somewhere. Pro crast in a tor (talk) 20:03, 7 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

is fructose a reducing sugar?

edit

I think fructose is not a reducing sugar. reducing power is even a way to differenciate aldose and ketose. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nicolas0318 (talkcontribs) 20:03, 25 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Ketoses can isomerize via tautomeric shift, allowing the carbonyl to migrate along the chain. As a result, they can be converted into aldoses. And the same conditions for qualitative analysis that one uses to test for reducing sugars are the ones that can easily promote this isomerization. See [1] for specific info about fructose and others. DMacks (talk) 20:23, 25 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
