Template documentation change suggestions for adjectival measurement sections

Suggestions:

  • Template:Convert/doc isd not protected, so I consider use of {{edit template-protected}} as not needed (set answered=yes).
Then for the content of your suggestions: if you think it is an non-problematic improvement, you are welcome to edit boldly. For likely disputed changes, let the talk here roll and agreement might be at hand. -DePiep (talk) 16:08, 21 September 2018 (UTC)
Ok, thanks, I missed something there when I thought I had to submit a request. I've changed the section heading accordingly. Eric talk 16:22, 21 September 2018 (UTC)
By the way, the hyphen in "one-eighth" is created by Module:ConvertNumeric and is not related to use of adj=pre in convert. For example:
  • {{convert|1/4|ft|in|spell=in}} → one-quarter foot (3.0 in)
  • {{convert|2+1/4|ft|in|spell=in}} → two and a quarter feet (27 in)
I have been exposed to many varieties of English and no longer have a feeling for what is "correct" but the hyphen might be an WP:ENGVAR issue. At any rate, convert always inserts a hyphen in the fraction if there is no whole number. Johnuniq (talk) 01:30, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
For the purposes of this template it probably doesn't matter, but to me there is a slight semantic difference between the terms depending on hyphenation. "One quarter-barrel" is a small container that holds 14 barrel when full, but "one-quarter barrel" is a volume measurement. Kendall-K1 (talk) 02:21, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
