Wikibooks policy change

What happened to Wikibooks? I see all the gaming-related material being moved to StrategyWiki... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sean WI (talk • contribs) 04:32, 21 June 2006.

There was a policy change at Wikibooks regarding inclusion of video game content; most of the game-related content that used to be transwikied to Wikibooks is no longer appropriate there. See the following links for further details:

move to gaming wiki template in need of modification?

While Template:Move to gaming wiki lists Encyclopedia Gamia, StrategyWiki, and GameInfo as places for more in-depth information, GameInfo has a policy against taking content from Wikipedia; for this reason, it seems inappropriate to keep their site in the existing template. Perhaps it can be modified to read something like :

This article or section is a candidate to be moved to a gaming wiki.
Articles on computer and video games should not list minutiae or give a detailed description of how to play the game : such topics should be moved to a gaming wiki, such as StrategyWiki for gameplay information and walkthrough content, or Encyclopedia Gamia for general information/trivia.

If the article or section can be re-written to give an encyclopedic overview, please do so and remove this message. See What Wikipedia is not and WikiProject Computer and video games for further details on content guidelines.

Agreed. I would also add a note that, unless moved, the content (if a section of an article) will be deleted in 14 days since being tagged. If the whole article is about gaming information, then send it to AFD. -- ReyBrujo 02:42, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

I like the template, but should we remove or merge this then? I've used this template before, and I don't see the difference (other than the consequences).--Clyde Miller 22:01, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

{{gameguide}} is used in only 9 articles. I did not know that one existed. However, I like its format, as it follows the clean up style guide. So, I suggest sending it to WP:TFD, or merging it here directly and redirect it here. But again, I would like to use its body instead of this one. -- ReyBrujo 03:07, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

I don't really mind either way, and some of those 9 articles might be by me. I found this unused template and I think a merge with this template or deleting it would be good. However, it might be good to move away from deleting stuff after a certain amount of days, because it takes work to transfer, cleanup, or find spots to delete. We might want to think through that one unless there are people willing to follow up on the tags they drop.--Clyde Miller 04:02, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Check out User:Tzaquiel/Sandbox for an updated template design next to the two existing ones listed here. I like the look and feel of Template:Gameguide more, but it seems, IMO, too gentle in suggesting a cleanup. There are a number of game pages loaded with bulleted lists and rambling factdumpery which need not so much to be tided up as to be gotten off WP. Any sugguestions here are welcome; feel free to dive in and modify my examples. Tzaquiel 06:44, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

I like it. I like it a lot, mostly because it explains whats going on and tells where to go with the information. Again, though, we might want to agree on some sort idea regarding the info removal. If you add the tag, I think it's your responsiblity to make sure the game guide info is removed, transfered, or fixed up from the article. Finally, are we going to make a place or category where all the articles with this template are going to be? Because I have a Strategy wiki account, and I wouldn't mind transfering some stuff from articles in need if people don't feel like doing it themselves.--Clyde Miller 03:01, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Agreed. I think it's fair to expect people to follow up on their tagging, and honestly, I think most do. To me, a category for the tagged pages feels very much in order, and the category page itself could carry a note to the effect of "Hey, follow up!" At the same time, a category would give the gnomes with time on their hands a nice little repository of things to do. I don't know about putting the "Hey, follow up!" in the template itself, though : it may intimidate people out of using it, and the template is pretty large as it stands. Template:gamecleanup now shepherds pages into Category:Computer and video games cleanup. Template:Gameguide would still be applicable to non-video/computer games. Template:Move to gaming wiki is depreciated and will be nominated for deletion. Tzaquiel 20:46, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Move/copy to gaming wiki

Why was "move to gaming wiki" changed to "copy to gaming wiki" [1]?

I would argue the former is more appropriate as it implies the information in question should be deleted from Wikipedia and moved to a gaming wiki, rather than copying on the gaming wiki and keeping it here. User:Krator (t c) 13:29, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

There was a consensus to standardize all transwiki templates in a "Copy to" manner for a good reason. All the templates have been converted a while ago ({{Copy to Wiktionary}} and similar ones), only the "Move to gaming wiki" has been left out, so I've just fixed it. The good reason was: a "move to" suggested that an article is going to be somehow "magically" deleted from Wikipedia after the process finishes. Not the case. Copying somewhere else is one thing. Deleting from wikipedia is another story, and should always go through a standard process (speedy/prod/AfD). If you feel that {{Copy to gaming wiki}} is unclear about it, could you please adjust it? --Kubanczyk (talk) 13:38, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
