{{editprotected}} There is no country called Palestine. (If you question this, who would you like to put at its head, Fatah, Hamas, or ...?) Try using the Palestinian Authority Territories or aka: PA Territories. Looslion (talk) 15:40, 15 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

It currently produces a link to Palestinian territories. If you think this needs to be changed, you'll need to obtain a consensus. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:03, 15 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Palestinian territories >>> Mandate Palestine

How do I edit this things so that ((flag|Palestine|Mandate)) returns Mandate Palestine and not the smaller-scope wrong-period Palestinian territories? -- Y not? 12:54, 20 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

{{edit protected}} Related to this. I don't have experience with these templates and some of them are locked. In the link I provided there is a list of changes that I propose. Currently the Palestine templates are mixed up.

The abbreviations PSE and PLE should be replaced with PNA and PSE. And for {{flag|Palestine}} and I propose SOP as abbreviation. Here is the end result:

The abbreviations XOM, ESH, PSE are from the ISO codes. Empty flag to be like in the Template:noflag.

The same applies to these abbreviations: Wikipedia:Inline templates linking country articles.

There is no such country as Palestine. ANd the population of the West Bank or Judea and Samaria is much less than 4 million. This is inaccurate and a lie.

Not done: Wikipedia is not the place to debate whether or not the Palestinian territories are or should be considered a "country". Note also that the name of the template "Country data Palestine" is somewhat of a misnomer retained for historical reasons; it should probably really be something like "Flag and sports team data Palestine". And finally, this template does not contain any population figure. Anomie 17:06, 12 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Request for fitting the current geopolitical and ISO change

edit

With several description changes taking place in the recent months, this template should reflect the UN designation and the ISO-1366 change in relation to Palestine. The meaning is that description instances should be altered from "Palestinian territories" (previous ISO code "Palestinian territories, Occupied") to "State of Palestine" (current ISO code "Palestine, State of"). See exact ISO decision here [1]. It hence requires to replace instances of "Palestinian territories" with "State of Palestine" (or "Palestine, State of"). Instead of "Flag of the Palestinian territories", it should use "Flag of the State of Palestine" or simply Palestinian flag. Greyshark09 (talk) 16:49, 21 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Greyshark, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say maybe you just forgot the discussion on Andrwsc's talk page that you participated in. It's quite incorrect to say I did anything "without any explanation." As long as we have a separate template {{country data State of Palestine}}, there really isn't a problem here. Besides which, this smacks of WP:FORUMSHOPPING. A requested move of State of Palestine to Palestine failed in December, and there's ongoing discussion on the topic at Talk:State of Palestine#Proposed merge with Palestinian territories. Let the discussion occur there, and on other relevant talk pages; let the countrydata follow what's set in our encyclopedic articles. --BDD (talk) 16:35, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Palestine refers to "State of Palestine" overwhelmingly following the upgrade of Palestine mission to UN from observer entity to a non-member observer state. The rest is history and wikilawyering.Greyshark09 (talk) 19:03, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Regarding all your examples - they are completely irrelevant. There is a page for Palestinian territories and there is a separate page for State of Palestine (not merged). Accordingly, there is "template:Country data Palestinian territories" and there is a separate "template:country data State of Palestine". We don't need a third country data template "template:country data Palestine" (this one). It should simply redirect to "template:country data State of Palestine" (per UN and ISO designation as well as Google decision). Nevertheless, "template:Country data Palestinian territories" can remain a separate template for various purposes. This is pretty much technical and not some political motivated discussion.Greyshark09 (talk) 19:14, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Not done: Sorry, but I don't see a consensus for this change. I suggest that you try some form of dispute resolution, perhaps an RfC, and see if that helps to build the consensus required. Best — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 12:03, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Try this again,

I see the problem I'm about address has been addressed before yet never fixed, but maybe this time it will be. The oPt has no flag, just like China has no flag, organizations have flags, land does not. The common name of the SoP is Palestine, the reason this template was brought to my attention was I just saw an editor adding this template when they clearly meant to link to Palestine not the territory. I think the correct thing to do would be to delete this template, move the SoP template to this template's title and redirect the SoP template to this title. Any objections, concerns? Sepsis II (talk) 20:56, 3 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Sepsis II: I agree. I really don't think it makes sense to maintain country data templates for geographical territories, since they don't have flags. In contexts where a link to Palestinian territories is preferable, it shouldn't be accompanied by a flag. The only two political entities with flags in Palestine are the State of Palestine and Palestinian National Authority. Palestine more commonly refers to the state than the authority, so I concur with Sepsis that Template:Country data State of Palestine should be moved here and Template:Country data Palestinian National Authority remain where it is. Template:Country data Palestine needs to redirect to Template:Country data State of Palestine, and not the other way around.

And the talk section above it. --Timeshifter (talk) 01:57, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Not done The name of this template is unrelated to the problem in that section, which I've instead solved by creating Demographics of State of Palestine. If you still want this rename to happen feel free to reopen this request but I don't think it will solve anything. * Pppery * it has begun... 02:51, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Pppery! I forgot all about the "the". :)
Which has been the main problem many times with these specialized link lists.
I have no idea if my original suggestion would tangibly help anything. But I am guessing it might, since those country data templates are so important. --Timeshifter (talk) 04:01, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Usually other templates call them following redirects, not depend on their names, though. * Pppery * it has begun... 04:19, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
