Please replace the flag variant under the label "1914" ( Flag_of_Russian_Empire_for_private_use_(1914-1917).svg ) with Flag_of_Russian_Empire_(1914-1917).svg. The latter flag is more accurate to depictions and flags from the time. Thespündragon 18:54, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- Thespoondragon, what's the visible difference between the two (which admittedly does not matter much) and can you point to a RS that asserts the particular design to be the-then flag? Templates are not exempt from sourcing requirements. ∯WBGconverse 09:14, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

Remove:
flag alias-2000 = Flag of Russia (WFB 2000).svg
flag alias-2004 = Flag of Russia (WFB 2004).svg
flag alias-2013 = Flag of Russia (WFB 2013).svg
| var12 = 1993
| var13 = 2000
| var14 = 2004
| var15 = 2013
Remove these lines to remove the flags as they are just based on the shades used in pictures in different editions of the CIA World Factbook and not are official or even real changes to the flag used by Russia, they should not be included and especially not linked to a specific year
kremlin is also just based on a picture on a website, not a historical variant

These edits will not produce errors due to articles using them, as they will be replaced with the default russian flag --Havsjö (talk) 00:29, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

- Special:WhatLinksHere/File:Flag of Russia (WFB 2000).svg
- Special:WhatLinksHere/File:Flag of Russia (WFB 2004).svg
- Special:WhatLinksHere/File:Flag of Russia (WFB 2013).svg
- 2004 & 2013 are still in use. 2013 mostly through transcluding Template:Footer European Artistic Gymnastics Floor Exercise Champions (Women). Cabayi (talk) 10:41, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
- Cabayi I fixed it, but I must tell you that if the year is "invalid", it will use the default Russian flag, which these are incorrect variants of. So even if it was removed it would have "fixed itself". Some aliases on those same pages these files were used on were aliases/links to years which have no alias, just based on when a sports-event took place for example (probably just in case), but they only use the default Russian flags because that link is "invalid". I have done this "strategy" on most of my requests since its so tedious to manually change them when they will be auto-changed anyway. I still do it if its a historical variant that would "auto-change" to the current (and therefor incorrect) version, however. --Havsjö (talk) 10:52, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
- Waiting on the fix to Template:Footer European Artistic Gymnastics Floor Exercise Champions (Women) to work its way through...
- Havsjö I'd rather not create errors even if they may be trapped automatically. Some day someone will want to "fix" something else in the error correction and this would just resurface. Cabayi (talk) 11:04, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
- Okay... but as I said, very many sports pages use country|year on whatever year the event took place, no matter if an alias exists there or not (including instances of aliases of the files you mention). But I will change manually what if you find any usage you want to get rid of before changing anything--Havsjö (talk) 11:09, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
- Done I forced Special:WhatLinksHere/File:Flag of Russia (WFB 2013).svg to clear with null edits on the articles still listed. Cabayi (talk) 13:36, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- Cabayi im so sorry, I also forgot to include to remove
flag alias-1993 = Flag of Russia (Kremlin.ru).svg
it is just based on how the image on the website looks and should also go... I removed all usage of it --Havsjö (talk) 14:52, 14 January 2019 (UTC)

Change the 1914 flag from
File:Flag of Russian Empire for private use (1914–1917).svg
to
File:Flag of Russian Empire (1914-1917).svg
as the description notes, the current one is unofficial and the several sources for the new flag shows that thats how it looked in real life. Havsjö (talk) 20:44, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

Adding National Badminton Federation of Russia flag
Hi. Can someone add National Badminton Federation of Russia flag according to this (BWF website)? Thank you. 110.139.95.176 (talk) 14:40, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- Could you sandbox this and/or be more specific about what changes (in the form of "add XYZ to the code") you want made? Primefac (talk) 14:48, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- Add a white background flag based on the ROC flag but with the NBFR logo, , just like in the extranet.bwfbadminton.com (first) link. "add nbfr-bwf to the code". 110.139.95.176 (talk) 15:57, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- That type of image might not even be allowable on Wikipedia depending on its copyright status. I'm not really sure the best place to request an image be uploaded, but this isn't it. Primefac (talk) 20:10, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

Can't it have the licensing like in ? 125.164.136.216 (talk) 04:38, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Could do, it would depend on how they license the image (which looks slightly more complex than the ROC logo). Again, I'm not sure this is the best place to ask for such an image to be created, especially if it will be uploaded to Commons. Primefac (talk) 13:58, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

Change
flag alias-navy=Naval Jack of Russia.svg
to
flag alias-navy=Naval Ensign of Russia.svg
as they should be synonymous. There is no differnece between "naval" and "navy" and the ensign is the main naval flag Havsjö (talk) 20:24, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
- First, thank you, Havsjö, for finding these. I recently fixed the Navy/Naval verbage on the Country data pages, which developed into a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Flag Template#Template:Navy doesn't display navy flag as the documentation says it's supposed to. In that discussion we see several instances where the Navy and Naval are different, and the consensus there is that Naval ensigns should be rendered by the Navy template. In light of that, the flags in Russia's country data page have been switched, ie the ensign is now rendered by the Navy template and the Naval jack is rendered by the Naval template. Thanks again for your help with these Navy/Naval issues. P.I. Ellsworth - ed. put'r there 07:56, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Paine Ellsworth: I implore the finalize the change of all Naval Jacks in this template to be replaced with the Naval ensigns. All of Wikipedia is now full of instances were the inapproriate flag is used. Not in a single instance ive seen in the list of file usage for the Jack where displaying the Russian Navy or Naval Infantry (Marines) using this template has the Jack approriate and manually changing these are time-consuming and unncessary since they could all be fixed with one switch. The same should really be done for all similar templates. There is no distinguishment between "Navy" and "Naval" and that the Ensign and Jack use those words is just grammar, not signifying anything. All instances where the "naval" template is used in articles which I have seen should use the ensign and not the jack, which should never represent the Navy "above" the ensign. --Havsjö (talk) 07:59, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
- To be honest with you Havsjö, I was involved in the discussion to which I pointed above, so it's possible that I am not reading its consensus correctly. If you think that's the case, then you may want to consider opening an RfC in an appropriate venue to get a more thorough reading of consensus. My reading of consensus is as follows:
- If both the Navy and the Naval templates call the same flag, then they should be left alone so as not to break any past usages.
- If the Navy template calls the naval ensign and the Naval template calls a different naval flag, such as the naval jack, then that is acceptable.
- If the Naval template calls the naval ensign and the Navy template calls a different naval flag, such as the naval jack, then they should be switched (as done in Russia's country data template).
- I am not really well-versed in these matters of flag variants and precisely what they should be, which is why I thought I had the objectivity required to read consensus correctly. I could be wrong. P.I. Ellsworth - ed. put'r there 08:35, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
