Cleveland stations?

I live right on the Detroit River, and I am able to get WEWS and WKYC from Cleveland, even though I cannot get local channel WDIV. Prior to digital, the furthest station I could watch was in Toledo. I recommend adding Cleveland to the "Distant Stations" that can be viewed in this area. 24.57.210.141 (talk) 09:56, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Ahhh... the Cleveland stations... You and I are only recieving WKYC and WEWS due to lake enhancement from the warm weather, and partly from tropospheric skip (bouncing off the atmosphere). The signals are bouncing off the lake and atmosphere, travelling the 93 miles from Parma, Ohio to Windsor, Ontario. However, These stations are not year-round (or even all-day) stations, and will probably disappear in the winter, and even during the midday hours during the summer, thanks to solar radiation. The only Cleveland station still listed in the Windsor-area TV Guide is WUAB 43.1, and that is only for Leamington (it broadcasts on UHF 28, and WCMZ from Flint is on that frequency, and reaches Windsor). I would only add stations that are available on cable television... but even then, WUAB isn't available on cable anymore outside of London, Ontario. Think of the cleveland stations as "summer visitors", but never as "permanent residents", like Detroit and some of the Toledo stations. WKYC-TV 3.1/3.2 has a strong directional null towards Windsor/Detroit, but is at 868 kW on UHF 17. WEWS-TV is omnidirectional, and broadcasts on UHF 15 at 1000 kW. The only other cleveland stations I've ever seen are WVPX-TV 23.1/23.2/23.3 (identical to WPXD-TV), and WDLI-TV (17.1/17.2/17.3/17.4/17.5). WHTV Not a Detroit DMA Station

WHTV is licensed to the Lansing/Jackson market not Detroit regardless of its tower location. It cannot be counted, metered, sold or be carried on cable under FCC Code 47. Its being removed from this templet until a dispute can be discussed and resolved. Secondly, why is there a "Coming Soon" notation to a subchannel on WJBK which has not aired yet and no announcement of any rescheduling of that channel's launch has been published. Such notations are unencyclopedic.

There also looks like potential User "ownership" of this templet which is in violation of Wiki guidelines.107.47.135.119 (talk) 07:07, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

It's not an article ownership issue... I've just been able to put far more detail into it, as I live in Windsor, and I'm able to monitor the airwaves very closely here, and have added the info accordingly. Also, If you've read on The Local AccuWeather Channel, they announced a partnership with Fox Television Stations Group and several other fox affiliates, to air the Local AccuWeather Channel on their stations, and this includes WJBK. In case the article has been updated, the link is available here. I can understand you removing WHTV for those reasons, however, and I agree that the FCC now licenses stations to serve markets, not cities. While WHTV does not serve the Detroit market, the transmitter is within the market, and is using the same facilities formerly used by WPXD, a Detroit-market station. Thus, because of its location, it should stay. This is not an article-ownership issue, but rather the issue regarding the location of its transmitter. -- azumanga (talk) 06:10, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

WHTV's City of License is Jackson, MI and not any city within the Detroit DMA. It still identifies itself as a Lansing/Jackson station. WHTV cannot serve, be on cable or be counted within the Detroit market. Other TV station market templets on Wikipedia have stations with a COL within the market as the only ones listed under that DMA. WHTV is at best an adjacent local. These templets should provide clarity to the readers. Showing two channel 18s and two MNTV affiliates only provides ambiguity. The station is on the transmitter it is now because the last station, which had always been licensed to the Detroit DMA, had to move further into the Detroit DMA to cover the entire market. Assuming now that the WHTV signal is intended to serve the Detroit market is not really factual. There should be a discussion here about the best way to list this station. Listing adjacent local stations in a seperate catagory would be a way to provide clarity. A footnote would also be a better way to list this station on this templet. As a station with a transmitter now physically just inside and partially viewable in the Detroit market but licensed to serve the Lansing/Jackson market
