Maximum Round vs. Final Round
editI'm curious to get other editors' opinions on whether changing "Maximum round" to "Final round" throughout this template would make it less confusing. I also propose changing "Maximum votes" to "Final vote total". There are already opinion pieces (example) that talk through how ranked-choice voting makes election outcomes confusing for voters. While I disagree with that sentiment, figuring out how best to assist readers in understanding these outcomes is definitely our prerogative when developing a good ranked-choice template. Is there something even better than "Final round"? Let's discuss! Brooklynpedestrian (talk) 09:18, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
- "Best round" might be better, but "Maximum round" isn't the same as "Final round"—all the candidates except the top-2 would have a 0% score in the final round. – Closed Limelike Curves (talk) 04:07, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
Requested improvements
editHi @CDaly, thank you so much for building this wonderful template :) I wanted to make a handful of requests/comments:
- Should we cut "Maximum round"? It feels like it's not a very-useful value, since it's already implied by the way candidates are ordered and their maximum vote total. I think it should probably be cut to save on width.
- Ideally, the percentages should be calculated automatically by default, by dividing the ballots for each candidate by the total ballots.
- It should be possible to drop the "Party" column, to handle primaries and nonpartisan elections.
