Clarification of what "deputy" means

edit

A deputy is a captain who temporarily takes over during a series following the non-availability of the appointed captain. In 1988, Christopher Cowdrey was appointed captain following the sacking of John Emburey; he only lasted one game, but he was not a deputy. In 1993, Atherton was appointed in place of Gooch; he was not deputising for him. I believe there are other cases where appointed captains are represented in the template as as deputies but I don't have time to check them out. Maybe someone will check out Botham 1981; I think you'll find he was appointed for the first two Tests, then resigned (or was sacked, or both). Brianboulton (talk) 16:18, 18 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
