Neutrality
editSo the Basques are not Spanish but the Catalans are, the Valencians are Catalan, the Extremadurans are Asturian (this one is comical), etc. Please give any reason to not delete this strange template. --Jotamar (talk) 15:48, 28 November 2014 (UTC)
- The only reason I separated Basques was because they speak a non Indo-European language, also I apologize about the Extremadurans, I did not know that they are not in the Astur-Leonese catagory, I was arranging the groups based on there traditional languages, I will re-edit the template to be more neutral, also feel free to change anything in the template, I intended no bias, I just created it because I thought it would help people navigate easier, I am sorry I am not an expert so my work is not perfect. Ethnic groups??
editThe term "ethnic group" is never used in Spanish politics or sociology except to refer to the Romani community. The other two well-defined ethnic minorities of Spain, Sephardi Jews and Moriscos, were expelled between the 15th and 17th centuries.
I have carried out a straw poll among colleagues from different parts of Spain, including Catalans with pro-independence ideas and all but one were shocked by the use of the term "ethnic gruop", and most found it laughable. The only disagreeing opinion was from someone from Asturias who said that this might fit with certain "light" definitions of ethnicity.
I think this template is not supported by any adequate reference and brings no value to the reader. It should be deleted. --Hispalois (talk) 13:06, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
