Template talk:Fb ss header

Latest comment: 12 years ago by Bryan.burgers in topic Separate competition table?

Could someone please adjust colspans and/or column widths, so that the columns end up straight? The "notes" should be placed to the far right outside the table as the table is designed at this date. //M96hardh (talk) 10:23, 29 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Recent Changes

edit

I cannot see the point in deleting the sorting columns... they were very useful to decipher things such as top goalscorers, who had made the most appearances etc. Also, to fit in with the rest of the Fb templates, I would suggest putting the nationality column back in. Yes nationalities are stated in the Squad Info section of most season articles, but you have to remember that the Squad Info is only for current players. Squad stats may include players who have since left the club. What is the general consensus? If there is a sway toward my view as per above, I would suggest someone reverts the changes by Digirami (I do not know how to make these changes myself though!). Best wishes to all. I agree with T1v37r. The sort function is useful to readers, as well the nationality column. I will return to what was before those changes and ask for those who want to remove those functions to discuss here the reasons. Regards. --ClaudioMB (talk) 16:20, 13 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Digirami, first of all, Claudio the creator of the template has not agreed with your changes. Please see above. Just because you personally percieve you change to be good, does not mean that other people think it is. Without doubt the issue should be discussed then a decision made based on the discussion - you do not have divine right to go and make changes which are otherwise unpopular. I believe that the nationality column is important for a number of reasons. 1) Some players have international duty during the season, 2) The Squad Info section only includes info about present players not those who have left since. The Squad Stats section does so you may otherwise not know what nationality a departed player was. 3) Pretty much all of the other Fb Templates include the nationality column so to keep consistancy I would suggest that this template keep the column. Once again, I will undo your change and hope that you will discuss the issue here. If the consensus among the wikipedians is that the column should go, then it goes - we have had a fair discussion. Templates are hard to change because they are used by many articles. To change a template's function we need to have a consensus from the users. If that is not achieved, then we could make a function optional, making sure no code need to be change on the already existing pages using the template. I believe it will be possible to make the nationality optional on Squad Stats table. I just did it to EU column on the Squad Information table. Lets try on this one. Shall we!? --ClaudioMB (talk) 14:56, 19 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Agreed ClaudioMB, but it seems that Digirami does not care about other users' opinions and evidently thinks that what he says is correct end of. Apparently a discussion is not required. Therefore I give up. Completely pointless! --T1v37r (talk) 20:12, 11 August 2009 (UTC).Reply

Separate competition table?

edit

Is there a reason that the competitions are listed in a separate table above the stats table? It appears to me that the template was created this way, correct? Is there interest in combining the two tables into one? I think we would have fewer alignment issues if we tried that.

It doesn't seem to be that sorting is an issue. I tried at User:Bryan.burgers/TableTest, and it appears that when colspan is used on at least two of the first row headings, the sorting comes in at the second row of headings. When I previewed the change on this template, it seemed to look OK, but for such a well-used template, I don't want to commit it without consensus. — Bryan Burgers (talk) 17:29, 27 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I went ahead with the change. I randomly sampled about 7 different pages that use this template from a variety of leagues, and it appears the change looks good. — Bryan Burgers (talk) 14:50, 1 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
