Aligned location labels inward

edit

12-March-2009: I have extensively modified the template map coding to shift many labels inward, away from the edges of the map. Many map entries have been duplicated, to separate each marker-dot from each label to be aligned inward. For example, the entry for the Mary McLeod Bethune Home, was duplicated to shift the label inward from the Atlantic Ocean. The coding became:

<!--BETHUNE marker-->{{Location map~|Florida
  | mark=purple pog.svg|label_size=70|lon_dir=W
  | lat_deg=29|lat_min=12|lat_sec=38.84|lon_deg=81|lon_min=1
  | lon_sec=55.55|position=|label=}}

<!--BETHUNE label-->{{Location map~|Florida
  | marksize=1 | label_size=70|lon_dir=W
  | lat_deg=29|lat_min=0    | lon_deg=81|lon_min=27
  | position=top | label=[[Mary McLeod Bethune Home]]}}

The label is shifted lower by 12 minutes of latitude, and west by 26 minutes of longitude. That shifted position is carefully aligned near the dot-marker, while avoiding overlap with nearby labels. With most of the labels shifted towards the inside of the map, the total width of the map could be reduced, to margins of just 0.4em and 0.05em (for the right-side margin). -Wikid77 (talk) 11:30, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
